Casinos and gambling ?

I've got three big casinos within a 20 or 30 minute drive of me and I've never had the urge to walk in any of them.

I've got nothing at all against casinos or those folks that like to gamble.....back in my younger Army days I used to shoot a little pool for money, play nickle dime poker in the barracks once in awhile and I'd always bet on Ali to win when he was boxing but that's pretty much it other than I now purchase lotto tickets weekly.

Do you go to casinos once in awhile or do any other type of gambling ?

A casino was constructed in the North end of the county, opened last year about this time. What a Godsend for this area,(shows how depressed we are when a thousand service jobs are considered a Godsend), jobs, tax revenue, a a build out of the locale with a gas station, and a couple other businesses.

We have been three times, once just to check it out, ate the buffet,(excellent) and lost $50.00 to the slots, twice more for a show and the buffet, no gambling.

We are not gamblers so we may never use the place for its intended purpose again, altho we will continue to enjoy the entertainment.

I will say merely an opinion an impression that I have is that gamblers are probably the most unhappy bunch of people I have ever seen.

Sitting on a stool with the most grim face, not a shred of happiness or hope. I am assuming these were the hard core addicts as I made this observation early afternoon mid week.

Never been to a casino.

Many, many, years ago I went to the dog races when I visited my Aunt in Florida.

The only other gambling I've done is a few lottery tickets and office sports pools.

I have nothing against gambling or any other form of entertainment. I always wanted to have something to show for my money so I never went in much for concerts, gambling, vacations, etc...

DW and I have gone to casino's about half a dozen times over the years. We've only gone to those when we're in an area to do something else (walking, biking). We usually take $10 and play video poker until the money runs out. Usually takes about 45 minutes for that. I once, just once, played roulette. I think I lost about $25 in a minute and a half. That was the end of the gambling career.:(
We find them too smoky and noisy. We've gone in just for the fun of it, for the glitz, for the sounds of hundreds of machines playing musical notes. 45 minutes is enough and we're done........

There are several casino's in my area and I have not been to any. Gambling just isn't my thing though I do like to play the card games for fun. When I use to have to go to Vegas for conventions I would end up people watching. Fun place to do that !

I forget where it was, but we were driving through a town decades ago that had a big casino and just stopped in there to check it out. We didn't do any gambling there and had no desire to stay in that atmosphere with all those people. No interest in gambling, but I have nothing against it or those who enjoy it. Most I've done was buy a couple of lottery tickets here and there, but haven't really even done that since I retired....throwing money out the window.

But you'll never win if you don't play and somebody always wins.

Just think, this could be you girl.........

I don't gamble at casinos. We used to go to the local one for the buffet . I hated walking through it --- the noise - the smoke - I couldn't stand it .

My sister loves gambling. In fact , when her husband died , her way of "grieving" was to gamble away her whole life savings. I don't know what she was thinking. Her only explanation was "it took her mind off of things". Now she's living with her daughter and still working at Target at the age of 77 . Gambling is fine - but you have to know when to walk away !

We've been casino fans for years. There is a nice small casino about 40 miles away, and we go there about once a month. Then, we go up to the city once a month to visit the kids, for a couple of days, and stay at a casino while there. Perhaps once a year, we fly out to Las Vegas. On average, this gives us about 25 to 30 days of "vacation" every year, and we "manage" our money such that our annual costs are about what it would cost to take a 5 day ocean cruise. We have a fairly solid retirement income, and the excitement of the casino is a welcome break from the routine....sure beats relying on the TV for entertainment.

We've got The Hard Rock Casino here but I've never been. Just not my thing especially since the odds are in their favor:)

Winstar not too far from you (I think) mainly for the trip out and free breakfast on Wed or Thursday..An hours worth of the slots after, figure I pay for breakfast that way..Maybe every other month or so..

Since we are RVers, we have stayed at a few casinos that have campgrounds. We aren't gamblers but we do like the buffets. :D My hubby sometimes plays a few hands of poker but that's about it. I have played the slot machines but I'd rather waste my money at the mall.

We like to go and have their buffet breakfast, then play some of the cheaper slot machines for a few hours. It's a nice change of pace for us and some of those slot machines are like big video games. Lots of fun to play. We go about once every two to three months.

Our timeshare is in Atlantic City. Sometimes we go by bus. Bus passengers receive casino bonuses of $25 (used to be $35) from the casino(s) upon arrival. We do not gamble so we will use our casino bonuses and not a penny more goes into the slot machines. Usually, we get back about $18. Last time I won $52. I still never have the urge to go into a casino and spend my own money. I admit, the atmosphere can be mildly exciting. It's interesting to note that most of the people in the casinos are seniors, some quite elderly. Guess that's their excitement for the day.

I just checked and Winstar Casino is 110.5 miles one way straight south of us on I-35......when you figure in the cost of gas that's mighty expensive free bacon & eggs. :)

Can’t see sittin’ in a casino,
lights flashin’
horns goin’ off,
folks fixated to a bright whirling screen
stuffing good money into a slot
or some sorta card hooked to their neck with a chain

hours
days
nights
weeks?
gone
….with the money

Poker?

Not in a casino

Not me

but

each their own
