Cat Shelf Fever

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
So my roomie gave me another "project" the other day - I swear I might as well be married!

She had a "cat shelf" that she wanted me to put up in a window, but the shelf had supports that had to be re-positioned. A simple matter, really, and it would give SnagglePuss a better view ...

So I grabbed the shelf, ripped the padding and the cover off (they even had a little space blanket inside, to reflect the cat's body heat - how clever!) and started playing with the supports ...

And finally got it secured properly. It took a bit of doing to lure 'Puss out of his newest hiding place - a shopping bag ...

... but finally he took a shine to his new cat-bird seat, and can pretend he's the great Jungle Hunter!

Kudos to you SifuPhil, that's so good of you to install the cat shelf! :cat: I've thought about them for my kiddo, but he gets to go outside for awhile every day, so I passed. Much more comfy than a narrow window sill! Your cat-person exposes himself! :love_heart:

PS: the cat looks very content on his new shelf.

Thanks to your exceptional carpentry skills, SnagglePuss has a new dimension to life...he is very photogenic. I love tuxedo cats, they always look like they're ready to go dancing.

We can't let him out in this neighborhood - first, we live on a well-traveled street that is a shortcut between two major roads, and second there are far too many dogs around.

He IS happy with his new perch, though - he talks to the birds in the morning and leaves us alone so we can wake up in peace.

That's true, isn't it? ;)

He's even been immortalized in a plastic canvas shelf-sitter - right down to the beauty mark next to his nose ...

Hello Kitty is just sittin' on the table next to me lookin' out the the morning. Much easier. As I started reading your post, was afraid (actually hoping . . .) it would become the nightmare story of an easy project gone wrong (. . . all ya gotta do is . . .). Nice job and a happy roomie and happy cat. All's well that ends well.

Now if I could only figure out a way to keep the damned dog from screaming.

I don't know if it's something that all Pekes share or if it's just Tigger, but he has a way of - not barking, I wouldn't dignify what he does with that term - a way of SCREAMING. That's the only way I can describe it. He makes Jamie Lee Curtis in the original Halloween sound like a mute. It's one of those sounds that, no matter how much I pride myself on my Zen-like balance and tranquility, always manages to terrify me whenever he lets loose with one.

Where's Cesar Milan when you need him?

Phil....I'm not sure why Pekes scream, but maybe this answer will help you. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120326174137AAt8Rqw :playful:

I know Siberian Huskies are known for their screaming. All the schnauzers I have ever had "sing". If I say the word sing they will throw their heads back and howl in unison like a pack of coyotes. One night out by the campfire, they decided to sing and they had a group of coyotes answering them. No more singing by the campfire for the Gangstas!

LOL@singing!

And yes, sometimes I think that Yahoo answer must be the right one! I know they were bred to be guard-dogs for the Chinese emperors - in fact, they were called "sleeve dogs" or "sleeve Pekingese" because the Emperor supposedly carried one or two up his sleeve, and if he was attacked he would launch the snarling, drooling, screaming projectiles at his attacker.

... Now, I don't know what size the Emperor's dogs were, but they would have to have been a LOT smaller than Tigger. That, or his sleeves had some hidden structural supports built in.

My roomie claims Tigger is having nightmares when he does this, because it's most common when he's sleeping - he'll suddenly wake up and scream. I don't know if ALL Pekes have these night-terrors - like the Yahoo answer implies, I think the cause is much more basic in nature - but they surely freak me out every single time they happen.
