Catalytic Converter Theft

The news has numerous reports of theft of catalytic converters. DIL had hers stolen recently. Her car was parked directly across from the front porch. Their video doorbell shows the truck pulling up at 12:30 a.m. Two men got out and stole it in 58 seconds.

Adding, it cost her $300 deductible on her insurance.

Not likely. Most people have a $500 - $1,000 deductible. Without a deductible, the premium will be much higher - much more than the replacement cost.
Yes, that's true. I have no idea how much a catalytic converter costs but once the mechanic's fee is added, it can be quite expensive.

This has been big business over here for many years,
thieves can get them off any car in seconds.

They want the platinum lining from them.

yes I was going to say the same. The annoying thing is that they only get the thieves a fraction of what it costs the owners to replace them...but because they're so easy to remove they're a big target.

They do say try and remember to reverse park against a wall or similar it makes it harder for them to get at it.. but 4x4's and SUV's etc are the biggest targets.

This theft was caught on the drivers dashcam while he was in the supermarket , you'll see how quickly the thieves worked in a busy London car park, unnoticed..
