Catching "Porch Pirates" on Camera

With so much surveillance technology these days, why do people risk stealing deliveries from porches?

Because they wear hoodies and sunglasses, which limits identification. That is, if the pirates can resist the temptation of posting their larceny on social media.

Because they know even if they get caught, they'll get a little slap on the wrist, and our justice system will let them out.

I'm not pro-porch pirate, but would you leave your wallet/purse on your doorstep, and think nobody would walk away with it? Yes, it is a crime. But, it amazes that people think nobody would walk off with an unguarded box of goodies.
