[h=2]Ear Muff Day[/h]Date When Celebrated : Always March 13
Ear Muff Day celebrates a warm invention...the ear muff! People in cold climates can really appreciate this day. And, they are ever so thankful to the person who created the ear muff. If you live in Florida, you might not even know what an ear muff is.
Ear muffs keep your ears warm, and protect you from ear infections and earaches resulting from icy cold wind and weather. Manufacturers have responded to their popularity with a variety of designs and colors, making one to fit almost anyone's personality.
It is really easy to celebrate Ear Muff Day.... just wear your ear muffs!

Origin of "Ear Muff Day":Big-eared Chester Greenwood is the father of the Earmuff. Greenwood patented the "Champion Ear Protector" on March 13, 1877. It later became known as "ear mufflers", and was eventually shortened to "earmuffs".
We wonder... Why celebrate Ear Muff Day in March? We believe it would have been more appreciated if it was held in January or February, during the coldest days of the winter.

I used to have a really soft fuzzy pair of ear muffs when I was a kid Ruby, also had a soft muffler for my hands. Wish I had a picture of me with them on. :D

Has anybody on Seniors Forum ever NOT worn earmuffs? I have worn them but don't like them.

Not a fan of earmuffs.

I remember years ago all of the little girls had matching white rabbit fur ear and hand muffs!

Then in the 70's my mother started crocheting these awful things to use up her scraps of yarn, LOL!!!

haha my 30 year old daughter wears hers all the time. Swears by em.. I always say suck it up buttercup and go commando like your mother..:what1: I will tell her after work she will love it.. Thank you ^.^

Yes, I love earmuffs in the winter. But the new ones, with the tight plastic bands, dig in your head and start to make you crazy. Because of the extreme pain you tend to smile too much, choose strange looking clothes, and walk like a monkey.

Aunt Bea ~ those nose warmers are a hoot. Did you actually wear one? I'm sending that picture to my good friend who loves to crochet.

Arachne - Did you mean your daughter wears a nose warmer or ear muffs? So you "go commando." ;)

Nancy ~ I'm still giggling over your answer. Is that a photo of you? I like it.

Lethe ~ I'll try to remember to make a post about National Chocolate Day on March 28th. Will you have a box of chocolates for us?

I love my ear muffs! I don't go out of the house without them in the colder months. I have them on all the time. I don't need a hat but I need those muffs. People tell me they recognize me because of my ear muffs. I have 3 pair and I'm glad to hear they have a day to be celebrated. Yay!

Way back when I attended public school, to keep your ears warm all the girls wore these. :p Anyone else?

And most of the boys wore these, unless they wanted to act tough.

I think the aviator caps were a great idea.

I remember them! However, those scarfs never kept my ears or my head warm. Not like my muffs do. lol.
I agree Patty, the scarves were very little help keeping your ears warm. If earmuffs had been in style back then, we'd have worn those. Much cuter and don't mess up your hair like scarves did.
