I watched a piece about this on tv. Someone discovered cement arrows. They later discovered there were more of them & then learned they went all the way across the United States. I thought it was funny that some people researching this thought it might be a conspiracy thing
Anyway it turns out they were put there by the U.S. postal service for the early airmail pilots. The early airmail pilots were called 'the suicide club' because so many of them crashed and died. So they laid out these concrete arrows across the U.S. to guide them safely. Here's a link about it

Maybe I should have said 'concrete' instead? I get cement and concrete mixed up.
