Changing a watch battery

I have a Casio LA670W that needs a battery. I took the back off and there's a thin metal band over the battery. I don't know how to remove that - it looks attached at both ends. I tried to pry it up with a jeweler's screwdriver and it didn't budge and I didn't want to force it. Anyone know about these things?

I was looking for that on You Tube. Looks like that larger battery is for the LED. That whole top section has to be pried off first & there is another smaller battery on the bottom section that operates the watch.
Do you already have the batteries? If not, a jeweler can probably replace them, but keep in mind the cost may be close to (or exceed) the cost of a new watch - the same model. They go for $18.50 new on E-bay & $19.50 on Amazon. A jeweler will probably charge more than that to replace the batteries.

There's a lot of immigrants in my area that have little shops and do this and other stuff that needs fixin' and they will put a new battery in for $7.00. and it lasts more than a year or years even.

Another owner serviceable items bites the dust. I just bought a battery for it about a year ago. I though it woudl last longer than that. When I had it replaced, it was $10 then.
These days, I only wear a Casio G-Shock Solar-powered watch. It uses a "Storage Battery" that recharges from any light source - sun or light bulbs. It costs more, but the storage battery lasts many years; mine is going on 15 years.
I went through a similar issue a couple of years ago with a toilet that sometimes kept running on & off. The plumber replaced all the parts inside the tank for $275.00 parts & labor. That was fine for a couple of years. But it was an older toilet that used 6 gallons of water & sometimes needed more than one flush.
A new (same model) toilet was only $300.00 with a better flush - never needed more than one & used 1.2 gallons. Lesson learned.

Without a new battery the watch is unusable so how worse can you make if you force the part off. Put on some elbow grease and go for it.

How about calling the place where you had it serviced before or a similar shop and ask them about the band? Do you have the replacement battery already & just can’t get it in?
