Charities! Give and Receive... Do you visit these shops?

I do contribute by sending clothing, accessories and furniture. Firstly, keeps items that could be reused out of the garbage piles. Been doing that all my life, as my parents struggled to make ends meet. I grew up extremely frugal.

I love giving and also receiving great finds in return. Visiting Ardgowan Hospice shop yesterday, found an amazing item. A Jane Austen wool dress with a handkerchief hem. Checked the current prices online, what a saving. Plus a lovely navy blue jumper with a white scalloped hem. Daughter got a lovely wee cardigan in black with a lacy rose pattern in the back and a tartan jumper with a flared hem plus a bonus of two DVDs and a red teapot.

What we enjoy the most is the fact that the charities get supplies that stays out of landfill and get money to help out. Perfect!

Months after hubby died, daughter and I, did kind of autumn clear out which we donated to the Sally Ann (Salvation Army).

We support about four on a regular basis.

British Heart Foundation (mostly for furniture, absolute bargains)
Cancer Research (books, t-shirts in summer)
Ardgowan Hospice (all year round for clothing and other finds)
Salvation Army (occasionally as it's too far from home)

So, your turn, please? Do you visit charities to make ends meet and/or help out?

Of course, yes..all the time. After I retired from my job I took a job working as an Area Manager for a major worldwide Charity in the UK..and worked there for 6 years until retiring once again....

I support every charity I can find tbh..altho' I like to give more to the Hospices ... however, Cancer Reasearch, British Heart Foundation, several Inidvidual Hospices.. Elizabeth, Isabel, Keech, Hospices etc.. . Age Concern get.. and altho' I rarely buy anything now from them. ( I used to buy a lot years ago ) . I regularly ( every month), donate clothing or Bric-a-Brac to them all.. there's never a month goes by when one or more gets a donation..

I do, and for the same reasons. I hate to send useable items or clothing to landfill.
We have a Salvation Army shop close by and it is very easy to drop off items.
The largest thing we ever donated was a sofa bed which was well received.
That was when we still had a box trailer.

I shop at my local charity store; I'd be pretty lost without it. And I donate unwanted items.

Our thrift store sells the better quality items in an online auction, with photos and details posted on Facebook. Too bad for me, as I don't have Facebook and don't care for auctions. I'd rather see something on the sales floor with a price tag. But I guess this is what people want.

Many thrift stores receive too much stuff, and it might get sold or donated elsewhere. Our local store sends their surplus to tiny isolated communities in the region, where I'm sure it's appreciated.

Yes. I donate to anything that’s useable. Items usually go to the Salvation Army and food to a thrift shop. There‘s one store that limits itself to clothes. I dropped off two items and left with three.

The one place I avoid giving donations to is Value Village. They are For Profit and give a ‘portion’ to a charity; their rules changes recently. Sometimes I shop there.

We donate items to a place called Value Village, and in the past have donated to Goodwill shops and
the Salvation Army.

Right now, we are donating food items to the Food Bank, weekly. We've got a box full to drop off at our
local Firehall today.

Over these past years, one of the charities that I have donated things to was/is the Vietnam Veterans Of America.
On Tuesday, January 10, 2023 I donated our 2002 Buick Custom Century Sedan.
*Note: That was date the car was picked up and taken away.

There are a few charity shops in our area. Goodwill used to be one, but when Covid hit, and maybe before, they stopped taking items. Salvation Army is another good one. I try to send my clothes, small furniture items like wooden stands, hassocks, cabinets, table lamps, whatever I am finished with using. We also have Next-To-New shops, where items are welcomed and recycled. I recently moved, and donated my refrigerator to the local American Legion to benefit Veterans at their sale. They were offered $240 for it, and it was in wonderful condition.
