Charities That Don't Get the Message

I’m surprised that no huge tech enterprise has set up a service like CanadaHelps. It eliminates paper, makes receipts easy and you can refuse any solicitations. We have a couple of other smaller services too that specialize in smaller charities. Many charities have said it saves them money too. They don’t have to do mailing, etc, etc.

Sometimes I get a phone call from a charity asking for a donation. I say "send me the details and I could send you a cheque", oh no, that was
not acceptably as they wanted my credit card number. I said that I never give my details over the phone as I was scammed a couple of years ago., then hang up.

they wanted your CC number...yeah right.. you have MUG printed across your forehead ..not!!

I must get at least 4 letters a week from charities requesting donations to help their cause. Sometimes they include a small gift such as a sheet of pretty paper with my name and address on it , or a small biro pen with my name on it. I used to send them back, sometimes with a small donation, telling them that this is a one-off donation and to not send anymore requests. They never listen and send another request about 8 weeks later. Sometimes I might get a small shopping bag included. This must be expensive to post to customers and also with a reply-paid envelope. This is getting out of hand and now I have decided to tear up the request forms.
Do any of the members On here have the same problem?>

Just don't open them. It's a fine line between consciously looking to improve our world, and simple begging. Throw them away, and make a conscious decision on what you want to contribute to.

I open most mail I believe is junk mail just in case it isn't. My new credit card is to be sent soon, and it's always in an unmarked envelope to not attract thieves. I would not want to mistakenly toss it.

My only charity donation goes to War Amps of Canada ( established in 1920 by WW 1 Canadian military amputees ) for their Champs child amputee program. Kids who are born with a missing limb, or suffer a traumatic amputation in a accident, will require as many as ten artificial limbs by the time they are an adult. War Amps pays the entire cost of those limbs, with NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING at all. Upon my death, War Amps will receive a $10,000 donation from my estate, War Amps also support recent Canadian Forces military amputees from our 12 year war in Afghanistan. Military amputees are paired with child amputees, for support and mentoring. A very worthy cause, in my opinion. JImB.

I get INUNDATED with mail from so many charities, many of whom I have never donated to in the past so they got my contact info from some mailing list. I have a few charities that I prefer to support and do so on my schedule and not in response to some fund raising campaign.
