Think I need glasses. Apparently I'm seeing double :oops:

5yr old used vehicles with over 100K miles on the clock and some for around $30K ... many with 4-cylinder engines.

Everyday new vehicles for about what I paid for my house.

And I've never seen so many SUV's

Sure glad my 2003 Jeep and 2012 Volkswagen are still going strong ... and big incentive to continue great care for them.

yep it's exactly the same here used car prices are absolutely through the roof....
 

According to Cars.com the average price of a new car in the US is now an eye-watering $50,000, but then the big SUVs are driving those averages up. Big SUVs are going for almost $100,000 if not more! I can't even imagine.

That said, I did recently trade in a pristine, fully-loaded '17 Audi A4 with only 36k miles. The dealer listed it for only $21,000. It needed occasional repairs but it was a steal for some lucky buyer. I think it lasted on the dealer's lot for less than a week. Sedans are more attractively priced because everyone is SUV-crazy.

They seem to be in line with the price of everything else!

I bought my current vehicle new in 2012 for approx. $19,000.00 tax included.

Today a similar replacement vehicle would cost me approx. $43,200.00 tax included.

The new vehicle is vastly superior to my current vehicle and is loaded with many wonderful features that are of absolutely no interest to me.

I wish that we were still able to buy a basic mechanical vehicle similar to those that were available in the 60s and 70s.

The other side of the coin is that my income has kept up with inflation, I rarely complain about that. 😉🤭😂

I've read that accounting for inflation, a 1910 Ford Model T would retail for $26,322 today ... $780 in 1910 dollars.
 
I think the days of walking into a dealership, plopping down $2000 and getting a fully loaded new Lincoln Continental with heated leather seats; are way over. Cars have always been expensive. I can remember when my monthly car payment came to $400- the same as my mortgage. And to be honest, today, you get way more car for your money. Yeah, they aren't cheap, but nobody's making $1/hour anymore either.
