Cheesed off about Cheese

Robusta, you could have been more specific. Here, when my friend doesn't want cheese on his burger he tells the waitress specifically
"no cheese". Its always a good thing to be nice to the restaurant staff.

I enjoy a variety of ceeses of which I'll indulge in eating occasionally, but, I'm not particularly fond of cheeseburgers, unless it's a specify kind like with Swiss and mushrooms and such, but even then I'm fine if the cheese is left out.

Not surprised to hear that (underlined) because dairy products contain casein which when digested turns into casomorphin. From a link: http://www.collective-evolution.com...ls-cheese-is-just-as-addictive-as-hard-drugs/How Is Cheese Addictive?

This may sound crazy, but dairy actually contains a chemical that is similar to morphine. Researchers identified a protein known as casein in 1981 that is present in all mammals, including humans and cows. When we eat dairy and it begins to digest, the casein actually releases opiates that are known as casomorphins. Casomorphins, similar to morphine, are a member of the opioid family, and the implications of this are pretty astonishing. You may literally be addicted to cheese.

So your family members, while not getting high from cheese, are dealing with very strong cravings that make it very difficult to give up.

Interesting. I never heard that before but it makes sense, I guess. I'm not aware that I actually "crave" milk but I do love it and it is -- shall we say -- very satisfying! ;) I also love cheese but try not to overdo it because it is fattening. It is also a good protein snack. Funnily enough, I almost never crave ice cream and there are plenty of sweets I'd rather have for a treat.

Maybe the opioid characteristic of cheese is why Keith Richards doesn't eat cheese? That would make sense to me.

Maybe the casein in milk is there to help make sure babies of all lactating species want to nurse?

Hated cheese as a kid. Love it now. But not the exotic kind. Plain old cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss. Cheeseburgers, pizza with extra cheese, ham & Swiss, grilled cheddar sandwiches, grated cheddar on all salads.

I don't crave ice cream, but once I taste it, it's addictive. Can't let myself buy it at the grocery, especially chocolate---a half gallon disappears within 2 days.

Giggles, I see I'm not the only one who has that problem with ice cream even though you no longer really get a half-gallon, more like 24-28 oz. These days. Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Well guess a little less to eat a little less guilt.;)

I love cheese, but I eat it sparingly. I am extremely worried about the health of my son and granddaughter due to their weight. I will share the article on Facebook.

I love cheese and eat it sparingly too.. Not only is it fattening... but it's high in cholesterol and it's constipating.
