Chinese teenager breaks Guinness record with 7-foot height

He still has a ways to go to catch up to Robert Wadlow, who was the tallest man in the world at 8 ft 11.1 inches.

I hope for his sake he doesn't, but he might. Most teens I knew had a big growth spurt between 12 & 20 years old.
Mr. Wadlow had a short & painful life of only 22 years.

A short life it was.

What so many people don't understand, is acromegaly does does not make for strong joints, it cripples the person instead, leaves them in considerable and often unbearable pain, and seldom do people afflicted with acromegaly posses strong athletic attributes.

Tell me about it.

I'm a puny little 6'-3" tall, but when I was around 15, I underwent a growth spurt. On two separate occasions, both while I was playing football with a friend in my front yard, I was running and suddenly heard and felt a pop in my knee. It was kinda sore after that and for many years afterward, I could not crawl or sit on my knees because it was too painful.

Went to a doctor and was told I had something called Osgood - Schlatter syndrome, which meant I was growing so fast, the tendons in my knee couldn't keep pace with the bone growth.

Many actors had that condition. Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster), Richard Kiel, Paul Benedict (The funny Englishman on "The Jeffersons")

My husband remembers going through a crazy growth-spurt where he suffered severe charley-horses that would wake him and leave him writhing in bed.

A Chinese boy celebrated his 14th birthday by becoming certified as the world's tallest teenager by Guinness World Records.

Ren Keyu of Leshan, Sichuan Province, was measured at three different times in one day while both standing and lying on the ground in accordance with Guinness requirements, and his official height was recorded as 7 feet, 3.02 inches.
