Right up front I’ll say I think Christie Brinkley looks FANTASTIC. She is 61, and she is …..wow….gorgeous. Always has been. (I don’t know what ‘work’ she has had done, and I don’t care.) I saw her earlier today on a talk show – she's promoting a book and also a skin care line. She also said she’s dating John Mellencamp, and that they’re just having fun and getting to know each other. Sounds good.
However, marriage hasn’t worked for her. Married 4 times (once to singer Billy Joel, who she still has a friendly relationship with.) Has 3 children – one with Billy Joel, 2 with Peter Cook (they divorced in 2008).
I have some comments about her divorce from Peter Cook – which was very nasty and very public. Making it public was Christie’s choice, and I think she was wrong. Okay, he cheated on her and he was apparently an internet porn addict. Terrible. Low down. Dirty. Ick.
But while I can understand her hurt and devastation, I think Christie was wrong to drag all that out in front of everyone the way she did…almost gloating at her ability to humiliate the father of her children. I’m not saying I felt sorry for him (I felt sorry for the kids, who more than likely had to face taunts from friends and school mates). I think she was wrong. There, I said it.
A few years ago Christie was on “Today” talking about the divorce and some problem she was still having with Peter Cook when she was supposed to be talking about her performance in “Chicago”. Matt Lauer said “Christie, it’s been 3 (or 4) years – when are you going to move on?” or something like that. She started crying, and frankly, it was a very awkward interview.
So, I hope now she has found some peace.
