Christmas Eve in my recliner - and you?

Merry Christmas to everyone here! This is my first visit here in a very long time. Used to enjoy the site, but then discussions got hijacked by some idiots. Just thought I'd pop back in to give Christmas greetings to any of the old guard who are left.

Being my first Christmas alone (husband died this past January) it will be a quiet one for me. I have no plans. Did no decorating. Will check in some websites and watch some old TV series episodes. Being in Florida the weather hasn't made it feel seasonal yet. Been almost to 90 all week. Today should be cooler, with tonight going into the 40s - quite a yo-yo!

Just watching the news. A local bank was robbed by a guy in a Santa suit yesterday! Jolly old Saint Knick!

So how are y'all spending the holiday?
Jan

Hi Jan, I'm fairly new to the forum.

First of all I'm so sorry about your husband.

I actually think your plans for the evening sound good, I'll be doing the same thing.

Merry Christmas

Deb

Good to hear from you again, Jan. Dave from Florida here too. Weather breaking weather here this year. Ready for a little cooler weather.
Will be spending this Eve pretty much the same as you. Family all over the globe so just me and wife.
Merry Christmas to you.

Hi, Jan. I'm new here...only joined this past summer...and haven't posted in a few weeks. My DH died in January five years ago. Christmas has been a hard time of year ever since. Guess I'll be "participating" in festivities with DD and her family tonight and tomorrow even though I'd rather be spending it with my cat!

Merry Christmas Jan, so nice of you to stop by, been missing you, hoping you'll talk with us for awhile! I know it's very difficult for all of us who have lost loved ones around the holidays especially, I posted a special wishes thread on the forum last night, and was thinking of you and a few others here who are missing loved ones in their lives.

Just me and hubby here, not doing anything special, we have our tiny ceramic Christmas tree plugged in, surrounded by some cards from family and friends. We'll take the dog to the park, and business as usual. Wishing you a healthy and happy new year 2014! :christmas2: :glitter-heart:

Hi Jan. Sorry if I'm one of the idiots chasing you away. Please stay.

Your first Christmas alone is surely different and a major adjustment. I've gone through some pretty rough and lonely Christmases in my time and try to hold on to the reason for the season. I think not decorating is not helping. Nothing major suggested. But, just a sprig of holly or a poinsettia and a candle in the window can brighten the darkest days.

Merry Christmas to you, Jan!

Thanx, BIG (((HUGS))) and Merry Christmas to all of you!!! No, it wasn't any of you that I ran away from. I was surprised you guys even remembered me! Think I have a poor self image right now. I'll get over it. I have been doing what every new widow needs to do - picking myself up and kicking myself in the butt to go out the door to every event that I can. My mobile home park does stuff, my new church is active and I'm a member of the crazy Red Hatters! It has been a hard month as my birthday fell in it, and four days later the five year anniversary of my son's death. If I can make it through mid-January, which is the first anniversary of my husband's passing, I will feel I accomplished a lot. I did sort of half-heartedly stick out a few decorations and hung the cards. Didn't get my act together to send out my own cards, though. They are still sitting on my dining room table, unsigned, unadressed, unstamped. Thank God for those you can send E-cards to! Anyway, I will be coming back here for company in the next couple of days and hope to see any of you who need an e-touch here, too.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sounds to me as if you are on the right track, Jan. Hang in there, my friend. You know the old saying about time healing all . . .

Please continue coming back here. We enjoy your company!

Jan, I don't know you well, but I spotted your name the other day and thought, "Where did she go??" :( So, see, we did miss you!! So sorry about your husband; this will be a sad holiday for you, but you're doing right by keeping busy and not being alone if you don't want to be.

Hope you will stay and chat here and goof around when you're up to it. Merry Christmas!! :)

Jan,

Glad you checked back in and I hope I didn't contribute to your ill feelings about the forum, and if I did I apologize up front..

So sorry to hear about your sadness, it's alway hard to deal with the loss of loved ones, but when it happens around the holidays, it's compounded. Hard to put on a merry face when your heart is breaking.

Stick around and chat when you feel like it, we missed ya!

Thank you so much. And, no, it wasn't any one of those who I'd chatted with so many times. It was a couple of newbees who probably aren't around anymore. You guys all feel so comfortably familiar - I missed you - (((HUGS)))

Wow, down under! So what is your Christmas weather like? Here we had a week in the 80s and now it is dropping 20 degrees, so nights will be in the 40s brrrrrr! But that is what normal here is supposed to be.

Hi Jan...
Almost expect you're in our senior mobile home community in Leesburg FL...
where we'd be now, if we had any sense... We have three Jans there.

Instead... Peru IL, current temp 3 windchill -17. BUT
Yes on the recliner... fireplace and "A Christmas Story" on TV...

Hang in there... no better place to be than a senior community... we're all in it together... Red Hats,Pot Lucks, Saturday coffee and more people, just like us.

From our recliners to yours... Merry Christmas..

Jan, Redcliffe is our closest station ..... we have cloud cover and currently 27.8C (82F), and will likely turn out to be a little under the 30C predicted. It's actually very pleasant with a light breeze. We're almost exactly on the same latitude South as you are North.
