Christmas for old people, (or so they say)

I wondered how my grandparents were able to host Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day...all within the space of only about a month...for the entire family, including the g'kids.

How? Well, for one thing, they were considerably younger than I am! In their days of hosting the holidays, they were in their 40s, 50s, 60s. Still, though, my granddad worked at the newspaper, and the only day no paper was printed was Christmas Day. My grandmother was the head nurse at an OB hospital...now there's a 24/7/365 job!

One way or another, they still managed to host all the holidays, complete with oyster stew on New Year's Eve and big dinners the rest of the time.
