Christmas Gift Exchange

Other than financial gifts to our children & grandchildren, I only have one friend who loves to give & get gifts. The feeling isn’t mutual. I detest getting something that I have absolutely no need or desire to have. Every year I gently suggest we don’t, yet she doesn’t hear.

The other day she asked that all her friends just take the money we’d normally spend on a present for her & donate it to her favourite charity. Like other special places, they weren’t able to fund raise this year. I absolutely LOVE this idea.

maybe if you tell her how much you enjoyed that this year and suggest that it be done this way all the time she might be willing to turn up her hearing aide? :)

A number of years ago I had to put my foot down and hard, because my words and subtle hints were falling on deaf ears, and once everyone understood that I was serious, and enough was enough, the gift exchanges ended, and I couldn't been more happy.

It was to a point where it was ruining the holiday season for me, shopping for those who didn't need anything, not knowing what to get them, and so on and so forth.

Thats why I give gift cards and my family loves it. They get their favorites and I don't have to get out and shop for things they don't need. I know what stores they like. The men love cards to Dick's Sporting goods and Bass Pro shop. The girls love Starbucks, Amazon, Visa and Mastercard gift cards. This year I see that I can get most of them from Amazon with free shipping to me. One of my "grands" already mentioned that she would love a "forever 21" card for Christmas so I will remember that for her birthday and Christmas presents. A few charities I donate to during the year sends me fancy cards through the year so I put the gift cards in those and give them out when we have our Christmas meal together.

I guess I pick crummy friends, because not one of them can give a good present. All you have to do is think of the very last thing in the universe that you would buy for yourself, and you'll get three of them. Not only can my friends not give me good gifts, they are incapable of buying clothing anywhere near the correct size. Jules, take your fiend's idea to donate to charity as a gift from God.
