Christmas goodies temptations.....I've given up!

I have no luck dieting during the Christmas season....too much temptation.

So, I'm going on a new diet. It's called the Triet Diet. "Triet", as in "Boy, that looks good. Sure, I'll try it!"

It's the only thing I can think of that'll work between now and January 1st, when I'll make yet another New Year's Resolution to lose weight that I have little hope (or intention) of keeping.....

I'm with you Jujube, I tend to go up around ten pounds this time of year, then slowly taper down again to my 'happy' weight. Gave up the resolutions years ago, now just enjoying life's little pleasures. :)

I have been living on shortbread, mince tarts, brown sugar fudge, and homemade fruitcake, marzipan, and Belgian chocolates for a week now. It shows! I love to bake.

All of the food mentioned sounds so good! I had some little tortes from Swiss Colony, mint chocolate, vanilla, regular chocolate. It is showing on me, too.

I don't eat that stuff but will buy those peppermint white chocolate covered pretzels for company :love_heart:

People really do have an obsession with weight and diet. It is so silly, they have entirely the wrong mindset. Instead of loosing weight much better is to decide to increase height.

I mentioned this to Elaine when she was muttering about someone named Atkins and the need to reduce the number of carburettors (though my old Jag hasn't got any) and she gave me a strange look and started to ask questions such as did i know the name of the UK prime minister and what month did I think it was.

For me it would probably be easier to increase my height than to decrease my weight!!!

I try to spend my calorie allowance, during the holidays, on the very best example of whatever is available and not settle for the mediocre offerings. I also do what I can to keep treats out of the house or only bring home single portions.

The worst part for me is dealing with all of the friendly enemies that wave platters of cookies under my nose and coo over and over "One won't hurt you." or "Christmas only comes once a year, live a little!". Please just offer once and back away, just back away!!!

For me it's when people ply me with drinks. I decided to give up booze on my 65th for no particular reason, it just seemed a good idea and so I did. I have had not a drop since but so many people try to make me have a tipple in the same way that when I decided to stop smoking many years ago people repeatedly tried to make me smoke.

My problem isn't the treats I make or buy during the season. I have that figured out. I make the cookies my hubby and son like that I don't like then I make a few gluten free cookies for myself. This doesn't cause to much damage. The big problem are the friends and family who don't want to come in empty handed even though I mentioned not to bring anything and all I need is their company. Still they come laden with goodies. At that point, I weaken. I can easily go through a wheel of Brie in a week. Gluten free cookies that I don't have to bake are such a treat. Bless their little hearts, how can I hand it back to them? I'll deal with it in January and enjoy.

Treats will be arriving tomorrow -- butter tarts, chocolate chip shortbread, organic fair trade chocolate, ice cream. Until then make do with cream cheese and strawberry jam on toast, yummy.

You know what's also good with the cream cheese and jam? Spread them on a large flour tortilla, roll it up and put it in the microwave just long enough to get the cheese a little melty. It reminds me of a blintz. You could also add a little cottage cheese or ricotta.

That does sound delicious, Blondie, sounds like what I do with crepes, ricotta and jam and roll up and serve with maple syrup, gooooood.

Jezebel sauce - I looked up recipe, calls for apple jelly, horseradish, mustard, pineapple preserve --- some ingredients will require hunting around for -- but it sounds enticing.

My recipe calls for apricot jelly instead of apple jelly, but once you put the horseradish in it really doesn't matter, does it? I get started eating it on crackers and I can't quit. My southern grandma used to only make it for Christmas and funerals. Apparently in the South, you're not really properly dead and buried unless someone brings jezebel sauce to the funeral lunch. I've often wondered if it could be effective against zombies?

I think I might give it a shot --- not expecting to go to any funerals anytime soon, but its good to be prepared.
