Christmas: My Favourite Time of Year!

Yes, yes, I know…it is early for Christmas music. However, it’s only a wee musical gift for those on SF who celebrate this wonderful time of year. A few tunes and videos to play back during the holidays, if you so wish, and, if you have a minute or two to spare!

As for myself, I am getting our bags packed, itineraries sorted and a myriad of other things organised, for our trip back home to the UK in ten days’ time.
Whilst there, we’re doing the rounds visiting relatives, and eventually spending Christmas Day with siblings and their children in London.

Joyous Christmas to all on SF.. and.. from our house to yours…


Then, on Boxing Day, it’s off to Europe to visit more relatives and finally ending up in Vienna for the New Year’s Eve Celebration…here’s a glimpse of what’s on the programme.
Several years since we spent NYE in Vienna, so I am pretty excited!

Christmas, it will be here soon, where does the time go, I am enjoying doing
just a little shopping, and putting up a few special pieces and decorations

I was just thinking what I should do for Christmas. No family and I turn down invitations to other family celebrations because I feel out of place. My niece lives in San Jose and invited me out there, but she usually puts on a big Christmas shindig for the people she works with at the hospital out there. That lasts most of the day as doctors, nurses, even the janitors are invited to stop by and have some food and drink. Maybe I’ll just go down to the shelter and help make or serve meals. I’ll have to ask my dog what she has planned.

My last project before "retiring" was in Oulu, N.Finland. Mrs L came to visit and we went to Santa Claus village in Rovaniemi. Mrs L worked in an infant school, so we sent a special card from Santa to the children. We bought a reindeer skin rug, but back in the UK it started to moult and there was reindeer hair everywhere.

It's a great trip for kids of all ages at any time of the year.

Christmas, in any religious sense, means nothing to me. I can definitely understand people celebrating the Solstice, but not some apocryphal tale. Nevertheless, we celebrate Yuletide and although I'm an atheist, I still like getting presents :love:

With my wife dying unexpectedly 2 years ago, Christmas season has really been hard for me to get through. I don’t shop or send cards. I give my kids money, which neither needs because shopping is something my wife never taught me. I would like to give them gifts, but don’t know what their needs are.

Gift cards are boring and clothing is out because I don’t know their sizes or taste. They each bought new vehicles just a few months ago, which I was going to do, but now I’m stuck. Neither likes to travel and as far as I know, they have everything they want or need. So I guess money it is. I can hear my daughter now “Really, Dad?” My son will hand his to his wife and say “Here, Merry Christmas.” My son and daughter-in-law are having Christmas dinner.

I think next year I am going away for the holidays. Maybe I will spend Christmas in Hawaii.
 
One of the three close friends I have invited me to go with him to Thailand next year for Christmas. It’s a 15 day trip setup by a travel agency. I choose to take only private rooms with their own bath, which costs a little more, but I’m not for sharing my bath or bedroom. We fly out of New York. He is also alone. His wife died after a long battle with ALS. She suffered tremendously.

I think getting away at that time of the year would be a good idea.
