A Quiet American
Today feels like the first day of a real vacation…. After a “character-building” day yesterday that found me in Prattsville, AL, for the night, I headed out this AM
I got off I65 as quick as possible and meandered through small towns like Pine Level (which had acreage on offer by Turnipseed Properties
)…. Drove up and down the rolling hills, enjoying blue sky and autumn leaves shimmering in the cool breeze. Passed Jim’s BBQ and the Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church. Forests interspersed with farm land or peach orchards…
Took a stretch break in Centerville, AL… like something out of a movie set or Mayberry…. Courthouse square, quaint shops and the “City Cafe”— family run, home-style. I got a cup of coffee and a serving of peach cobbler that, the proprietress assured me, “I just made.” (And it *was* perfect peach cobbler). Local folks all very friendly
Now I’ll get back on the road but here’s some photos of this cute little town.
