Cleaning out a chest freezer

There's a chest freezer in the cellar that hasn't worked since before my mom passed (2006). I shudder to think what's in there. How should I go about cleaning that out?

Don’t open it. Just call a removal company. Were there any terrible odours not long after it quit working? I‘d hate to think what could be in there.

Most removal services won't take it unless it's cleaned out. And, yes, hollydolly, there is what was once food in there.

I'd find one that would, and pay their fee happily. It clearly has no value, and who knows what kind of toxic organisms are in there now. There are some very nasty anaerobic bacteria out there.

Or just leave it alone and let the people who tear down the house take care of it.
