A dire message from climate scientists.
Nearly 80% of top-level climate scientists expect that global temperatures will rise by at least 2.5°C. (4.5 F) by 2100, while only 6% thought the world would succeed in limiting global heating to 1.5°C above preindustrial levels, a survey published Wednesday by The Guardian.
Many scientists have been anticipating this. The effects are 4x stronger in the Arctic regions, accelerating ice melt. We are going to experience a huge rise in sea levels. 6’ — 10’ in Southern Florida. Most of the state will disappear under the water. The Gulf states like Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi will lose waterfront and infrastructure. The largest cities on the Gulf and Eastern seaboard, Houston, New York, Boston and Jackson will experience several feet of water in the lower parts of the cities as the twice daily high tides create several feet of water in the streets, rendering them unlivable.
Storms will devastate inland areas up to ten times their former reach. Regional differences in sea levels are unpredictable for this article, but nothing within 10’ of the present sea level will be spared. There is a significant threat to the AMOC current the brings warm waters and temperate climate to the West coast of Europe and all of England and brings cooling waters to the tropics.
The West Coast won’t be spared. San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland will lose most of their waterfront and harbor infrastructure. L.A. and Long Beach harbors and San Francisco Bay and Bay frontage and their airports will be inundated and useless.
The effect on Northern Europe will be devastating. Germany, Holland , Belgium France and Spain will all loose most of their harbors and coastal infrastructure. Italy will lose Venice, everyone will lose beaches and waterfront structures. Greece and the Mediterranean won’t be recognizable.
The cost of replacement will be in the trillions of dollars, completely unaffordable, as countries struggle to feed and house the billions of their displaced citizens. Agriculture won’t be able to adapt to the weather that will effect food production and drown orchards. Too much rain that floods fields will prevent planting while droughts in other places shrivels what was sown. Storm intensity has already been demonstrated when only 1C (1.8F) was reached. The devastating effects of an increase of 2.5C (4.5F) can only be imagined.
A 1C rise in ocean temperatures will evicerate the krill that feed on algae that grows under the ice. Hundreds of aquatic species depend on this most basic food source. The collapse of the food chain will cause most pinipeds, penguins, and whales to be eradicated along with the predators that feed on them.
Many adaptations will emerge, and mitigation will perhaps, still salvage what’s left of the world; the newly discovered 5.5 trillion tons of natural Hydrogen, the taming of Nuclear fusion to provide an unlimited non-polluting source of energy being perfected by a coalition of 35 countries with ITER, in France; shading the earth with ultralight particles in the atmosphere to mimic Volcanic eruption’s; cloud seeding that doubles cloud cover over large areas to reflect the sun’s rays back into space. We have very little time left to stave off the worst.
Have a nice day.
Climate Change is in Turbo Mode.
