CNN reporting 2 dead after missiles/rockets land inside Poland

We use satellites and GPS to guide our missiles
That raises an interesting question, if the Russian missiles are GPS guided isn't that our GPS?

If so could we do anything to make it less accurate or available to the Russians?

Or do the Russians have their own GPS satellite system?
The stories I could tell.
That would be interesting, can you tell any of them?

We

That’s no secret. We use satellites and GPS to guide our missiles along with lasers. But, like I said, it’s very unusual for a missile to miss its target by hundreds of miles, but I would concede that it has happen, but in a different situation and under a different set of circumstances.

I can tell you that we aren’t going to be told the itty bitty details as my Colonel used to say. I don’t know where he got that from, maybe his grandson, but every time we would be setup for a mission, he would say, “You men will learn the itty bitty details at the flight readiness meeting.
I remember when one of our GPS missiles flew in circles several times at 800mph (or whatever) and hit a friendly target. That was during a Middle-East conflict. One of Russia's boomeranged and hit a Russian city offices complex or something.

I understand that laser guidance is superior but distances are the issue there.

According to reports I saw late last night, the missile debris in Poland is Russian, but an investigation concluded that a Ukrainian anti-missile missile hit a deadly Russian missile but didn't destroy it, just knocked it off-course.

It's my understanding the Russians pair their GPS guided equipment to their satellites.

Getting back to the original discussion, I would think even Putin isn’t dumb enough to fire a missile at a NATO country and have 30 other countries ready to blow his ass into extinction. I also think a lot of people aren’t willing to admit that Zelensky would really like the U.S. to take a bite out of Putin’s butt. Did you hear his speech after the missile landed In Poland? I am pretty well convinced that Zelensky was behind this. One reason would be it would keep the money flowing from the U.S. to his pocket. Why won’t he show where the money has gone that he has received from the U.S. and other countries so far? No accountability can be a great diversion, but sometimes it can also be a sign of “something is rotten in Denmark.”

I think this little conniver is shamming us for the money. Why not? The so-called President (Ghani) in Afghanistan did it and then he left town with a truckload of cash. Now, you can call ne conspiracist.
Yeah, Putin would have nothing to gain whatsoever by lobbing a missile at Poland. And let's not forget, the target was farm equipment.

Yet another opportunity for Russian technology to show its stuff. I looked it up and you are right they do have their own GPS system, GLONASS.

When I was in Russia men in navy uniforms were selling Russian Submariners watches. When I asked how you could tell if they were genuine I was told that if they were they wouldn't be running...

Over the years, we (the U.S.) have developed several and I mean several, different types of missiles. Depending on the program is how they were named. As to which missile is launched depends on the target. The coolest thing I saw regarding missile launches is seeing a launch from a sub. Or, better yet, two missiles launched from a sub, but not at the same time. A sub can actually launch all their missiles in succession. There is nothing cooler than watching a Trident missile rise up out of the water and head for its target.

Not a war-monger, but I am super fascinated by modern weaponry.

I'll bet!

Hard not to be.
Have you ever watched the Military Channel? They have different shows that highlight new weapons and there is also a show that compares the new with the old. There are a few weapons they most likely will not show. Everything has to go through the Pentagon and they are pretty protective of what they give up. I think the Marines are using the Mk22 rifle in combat as a sniper’s rifle. This rifle can switch barrels, which allows for the use of different ammo, depending on the target.

Russia has some type of weird GPS nav system operating by using radio waves and satellites. I don't know much about it. The U.S has no fault systems, as well as using GPS. With the technology we picked up from NASA, we can use Laser, Infrared and optical guidance systems, along with GPS and here again, it depends on the target as to which guidance system is going to be used. If firing at a tank, a ship or a building would determine the guidance system. Also taken into consideration is where is the ordinance being fired from? A ship, a sub, a plane or on the ground? This is why we have engineers that have math abilities way beyond my scope or pay grade. It's also possible that guidance systems can be used to jam other foreign missiles being fired at U.S. targets.

I think Pecos was involved in some of this technology. Didn't he install some type of devices used in guidance systems?

I missed this question. No, they have a cheap knock-off version they use. (This is an inside joke.) They do have a version of GPS, but it’s not ours. I have spoken to Navy and Marine aviators that have flown close to closed airspace in that region and a few have tried to lock onto their GPS. What the Navigators have told us is that their GPS is some type of piece of junk that they bought at Montgomery Wards. The interpretation of that is that it is easily decoded, but of little use. The one Navigator said that Garmin could make a better GPS for them.
