CNN+ to shut down after five weeks in service

An online friend (on Facebook I think) highly recommended this service. I never did check it out. I may do it though just to see the offerings before they bite the dust.

They are refunding subscriptions. It is closing down at the end of April, I think.

I don't have an ideological take on this, but it's a remarkable case study in bad business decision-making.

If you ask me for my 5 cents, I think there is just too much out there. The media is polluting us and we are drowning slowly day by day. I remember when we had 1 TV station, broadcasting in "living" black and white." It started broadcasting about 3 pm and shut down at 10 pm. There were lots of great shows to watch: Howdy Doody, The Lone Ranger, Davy Crockett, The Roy Rogers Show and of course, Walt Disney Presents with his 4 lands (Frontier, Adventure, Fantasy and Tomorrow Land). Now, we have 500s channels in colour, 4K and high definition but for some reason, nothing to watch. What we have now is bad language, profiles of crazy people, massive advertising, religious stations asking for your money, shoppping channels, repeat programming and totally depressing news. Boy, am I looking forward to spring where I can go hiking in our provincial parks and leave it all behind.

Actually, when I think of it, there is way too much news out there and it's on 24 hours, day and night. It's free so why would I want to pay for it? By the way, do I really need to know about how many people are in some mass grave outside of Kiev, Ukraine? Would that make my day? Would that make me smarter? Would that make me love my fellow man/woman more? Would that make me happier? The answer is NO to all those questions. Sometimes less is indeed better!

NOT their first one so .....
do not see why people want these subscriptions etc ... very little is exclusive and will be on regular.cable ...........in a short time anyway...

Maybe they were too late to set this up as the whole subscription thing is over saturated and being unsubscribed by more all the time

Is it any different from the NY Times, WSJ or anything else that you have to pay for?

I refuse to pay a subscription for news ...with the exception of UK Telegraph for its unbeatable coverage of the Ukraine invasion imo.

But US corporate media such as the NYT, The Blaze with biased marching orders for either ideological, "team" ...no thanks. Most US corporate media are picked up the next day by a secondary sources anyway.

Well, any company or new venture is looking to lighten the weight of your bank account. Money has to be made daily. It's the system.

According to CNN's website...

The decision was made by new management after CNN’s former parent company, WarnerMedia, merged with Discovery to form Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this month.

The prior management team’s vision for CNN+ runs counter to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s plan to house all of the company’s brands under one streaming service. Some CNN+ programming may eventually live on through that service. Other programming will shift to CNN’s main television network.
