Lipstick Alley? Um . . . really???
According to the map, there is also a Tree Service business.Somebody mentioned the traffic citations as a source of income for this small town that has one motel, 2 liquor stores, a dollar store and a pizza joint as it's business district. Here is a map of the area. Link. Coffee City texas map - Google Search
If you don't like my sources, feel free to put up your own about this topic. I would welcome new sources about this tiny little Texas town's Police service. JImB.Lipstick Alley? Um . . . really???![]()
I have been trying to find out what the speed limit is on the main road in Coffee City, Texas. Anybody know what it would be ? A guy here from PA suggested it was a case of "cops sitting behind a bush " to trap speeders. Where I live traffic fines are paid to the Provincial Treasury, then the money is divided and sent to the various municipalities, based on their census population. With that system there is no incentive to write Provincial Offense Notices as a way to increase the revenue of a particular place, town or city. Obviously the city of Toronto Police Service is going to write more PON"s than the small town of Sturgeon Falls will. JImB.According to the map, there is also a Tree Service business.![]()
HEADLINEI tried to connect to the Coffee City Police department's website this morning ( September the 4th ) and it was "not available ". The same for it's Facebook page. Same for previously available photos of their officers, and patrol vehicles. Isn't that odd ? Could things be coming unglued in Coffee City ? I wonder. JimB.
Nice satire Dave. Seriously, would you try and connect to their websites for me ? I know that my internet service has been a little spotty the last few days here in Toronto. Just give it a try and see if you get the same negative results that I did ? Thanks. Jim.HEADLINE
SENIOR FORUM EXPOSES POLICE CORRUPTION IN TEXAS
A relatively unknown Senior Internet forum beats Texas
lawmakers to the story, and brings town to it's knees. No
effort was made to contact city officials who did not respond
to questions from the forum.
Citizens of Coffee City expressed shock. Earl Muffet, who
stocks grocery shelves at Dollar General, said, "We never
knew anything was wrong. We thought all Texas
towns were doing the same thing."
This one works for me, but there's nothing there that mentions a scandal.Nice satire Dave. Seriously, would you try and connect to their websites for me ? The source I started with is a Houston area TV station that did a 3 part investigation about the Coffee City Police Chief and his department. KHOU was the station check their website for the links to the story .Hummmm. I live very near Coffee City. Interesting that I learn about this from a post on an internet site from a poster apparently living in Canada. Not surprised though since our local news stations and the newspaper seldom report anything that might require some investigative effort and certainly nothing that might reflect badly on our area - unless it’s Hispanic/African American crime. That they gladly report and print.
Never been a member of AAA, but that would be helpful. The county just north of me is Hell on drivers and has two speed traps that I know of.AAA used to publish a list of towns that had "excessive" traffic enforcement and got over a certain percentage of the town income from traffic fines. Florida had two: Waldo and Lawtey. The saying was "Don't be Naughty in Lawtey".
Apparently, being "naughty in Lawtey" meant driving through it. You could count on a speeding ticket.
When I was an owner/operator for an Ontario based expedite freight company in the mid 90's, I ran a E 350 Ford cargo van. I built a list of "American towns with low speed limits " that I carried in my van.AAA used to publish a list of towns that had "excessive" traffic enforcement and got over a certain percentage of the town income from traffic fines. This link shows that in 2014 Waldo Florida's Police department was shut down, permanently, as was the Town of Waldo. So, are you saying that the State of Texas has no legal control of such things ? I would suggest that the State of Texas does have the legal power to, at the very least, investigate cases of possible corruption within it's boundaries. JimB.It is up to the people of Coffee City to attempt to challenge the system.
The State has the power to investigate, sure. As to the weight or credence they give or will give to any complaint is unknown. It seems with as many tickets given out, someone would have challenged it with legal action, not just a not guilty or guilty plea. Anyone who received a ticket would have legal Standing to challenge the system in Court. Why hasn't the media put it in the spotlight? So, are you saying that the State of Texas has no legal control of such things ?
