Coffee Recommendations for Gift Baskets?

I'm going to be doing some coffee gift baskets for Christmas giving... a couple bags of coffee (ground, not beans), a special mug tailored to the recipients, biscotti, etc. I'd like to find some special coffees (not flavored coffee, though) that taste great... not "cheap" or ordinary/everyday. I don't want to break the bank, but premium ground would be super. Any suggestions? :coffee:

If your coffee recipients have a Keurig pod machine, which I love, I can recommend San Francisco Bay French Roast.

Great idea Kate! How about a Coaster? I have beach themed sets of 4 for my renters but you can buy coasters separately in some stores or online. Or buy a set and separate them out yourself since you're doing several baskets. One set is green palm fronds. Another is sea turtle art. Another is a lightweight carved driftwood looking wood. Or you can make your own!! Just buy thin round cork protectors at your local craft store to glue to the bottom.

Also...I have a "Mr. Coffee" brand small round Hotplate aka Mug Warmer meant just for coffee that I use every day.
14.99 on Amazon. I know, pricey when doing multiple gifts. Be careful though because they also sell one that turns itself off automatically for twice the price. They should have pictured the cord in the back too.

I've made food packages for years & it's made Christmas easier. I wouldn't rule out flavored coffees.

We drink flavored & non-flavored coffees. I have 6 or 7 that we rotate between everyday. One brand we like is called Javataza. I buy it from my local bulk food store. These flavored coffees are not overly strong - Hazelnut Cream, Jamaican Me Crazy, Mocha Java & Southern Pecan.

We also get two other non-flavored coffees from local companies that are good, Boston Stoker & Purebred Coffee.

My mom used to send me off to Starbucks to buy their Christmas Blend.

Once I listened to a podcast interview of a coffee house entrepreneur who said that people didn't think they wanted 'light roast' but that in their taste tests people actually did like light roast the best. So maybe you can find a light roast?

First avoid the so called Christmas and Holiday blends. IMO, they are the floor sweepings left over from cleaning out a coffee bin. IOW, not so good.. Avoid little packs of novelty coffees often sold by mass marketers on and off the internet. Again, they are usually low grade beans. If you can find a local coffee house that roasts its own coffee and get a bag or two from them.

A can or bag of Lavassa or Illy coffee imported from Italy would also be a good choice. It’s a standard house quality coffee in Italy, but since Italians are fussy about good coffee, It’s hard to get a bad cup using either blend. And while more expensive than American brands they are of high quality and still cheaper than boutique coffees. Illy coffee comes in nice small cans that can be reused to store beans, or anything else that you don’t want exposed to the air.
