colonoscopy

You would think that after 4 times I'd be use to this but still I'm hungry as hell, this Gatorade and ginger ale is not food.
That new prep liquid had better be tastier this time.

10:30am Tuesday and I do love being put to sleep.

Let us know how you do. I'm sure it'll be fine since you are getting put to sleep and won't know what's going on. My husband is having one in Nov. I told my dr she couldn't run fast enough to get me to have one. I did tell her if I ever get really, really bad off and so sick probably nothing could cure me, then maybe I'd let her send me to get one done.

Had mine last month, my 3rd (I'm on the every five year plan). The prep is a bit better these days if the doc. gives you something like Miralax. It's powder and mixes nicely in Powerade. No more foul tasting liquid. I still had to drink a gallon to start, then a half gallon the day of the procedure. I think the worst part was the no food during the day, before drinking the prep mixture. Felt weak by the end of the day. Procedure itself is a piece of cake.

I've never had one but gut cancer runs in Hubby's family and he has to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy every 5 years. He's been doing this since he was 40 and by now it's pretty clear that he has missed the bad gene.

Better to get anything growing in the gut as early as possible.

I know two people who were likely saved by this important screening. Both had cancer and didn't know it until having the colonoscopy. Both are fine today thanks to early detection.

Okay, I have mine, my first, next month -- September. I tried the prep about 15 years ago and got deathly ill by 1p.m. Sat on the "pot" with a bucket cradled in my hands. Cancelled. Have avoided it ever since.

There is a fecal test now that is much fancier/better. Quite involved but easy to do. Well, wouldn't you know it ... it showed cancer DNA in my stool sample. So I must do the colonoscopy after all.
:(

Something else to consider ... I just read/heard that it happens more often these days ... a second cancer, completely different from the first cancer a person has had. Not just a recurrence of the same type of cancer in a different area. I'm a breast cancer survivor, so I could be falling into that category.

But ... if you or your family has had cancer and beat it, it's possible to develop another completely different cancer. So...be on guard!!

Linda, this will be my third one in the last 5 years, the only thing I hate about all the is the prep work the day before and the drink that comes with it. This new sample prep drink that the doctor got as a sample is AWESOME and easy to take and only 1/2 pint to drink with gallons of water. The name on the box is PREPOPIK.

Put what? Where? I've had 5 (the last 2013). Prep is a killer. Stick what? Up what? OMG!!! Good luck Dude, I know the feeling.

Prep is not so bad this time around but its the 4 laxative pill that kill me PLUS the toilet is not available when I want it.:D

Good luck, Davey. Mines coming up first of the year. Do you still have to drink a gallon of that foul tasting stuff?

That's the best part of all, only 1/2 pint in the AM and another in the PM followed by gallons of water.
This new prep liquid taste like sour lemon but its ok to drink.

Ask the druggist or doctor to prescribe the new prep kit called Prepopik made by Ferring Pharmaceuticals but get this "made In China".

Procedure all done,Doc says "it looks good, see ya next year and take 9 pills instead of 3".....oh great, the damn things are big capsules.

Forgot to mention I have ‎Ulcerative Colitis.

I've had two. No problems at all with prep or procedure. I've watched videos of thousands of feet of the inside of sewer lines. Told the nurses this last time that when I retire I may "downsize" to colonoscopy work!! :>) Only problem I've had is my wife. She's been there both times to drive me home. She always asks the doctor if he found my head!!!!!

Never had one and don't intend to unless I feel it's really necessary. I do the annual home fecal occult test, and it always comes back negative. Hoping that continues.

I've had 4 of them in my lifetime..
The worst thing is the cleaning out part but the last time, it wasn't bad at all.. Pleasant tasting actually..
As far as the procedure goes, a piece of cake is putting it mildly.. Even easier and they didn't put me to sleep..
