Sticking with the definition, my answer is no. Climate change and other environmental evidence indicates that our planet is not on a positive course, therefore not improving.

I'm usually the optimist here, pointing out, for instance, that global poverty has declined a great deal in the past generation, and continues to do so.

However, I'm somewhat pessimistic these days. The thing that worries me most isn't climate change but our crushing debt. We're already paying more for interest than for defense. No one has a serious plan to bring the problem under control.

That doesn't mean armed conflict, pandemics, degradation of the environment and other things aren't huge problems. I just think that national fiscal collapse will get us first and affect us in ways we can't even imagine.
