Comfort food when you are unwell

My husband isn't feeling well, a virus he's coming down with, really feeling sorry for himself.
He wants lucozade - but I think that's the worst thing. Surely it is just pure unnecessary sugar? Thinking of being poorly as a child, my mother always gave me that and it was always tinned soups and bread while you languished abed.
Now I think water, tea and rest is best. I like toast if unwell, it is comforting.

I have no idea what lucozade is... but when I'm not feeling well, toast always comforts. And... maybe I shouldn't admit it, but potato chips as well (crisps to you.) I always thought it was weird but then a physician friend told me it's the salt, not the actual chip that helps. Slightly salty food helps tummy... but he said saltines would work the same. That didn't go over very well... who wants a lousy saltine when you can have chips?! 🤷‍♀️ Anyhow, I hope your husband is feeling better real soon!

Club crackers were the only thing I could eat when I had Covid and crackers and weak tea or broth are still my favorite sick foods. A little salt and a lot of hot liquid is good for all sorts of colds and flu. Get your stomach full of hot water and it acts like an internal hot-water bottle to loosen your lungs and bronchial tubes.

The only time I drink tea is when I’m sick. At the start of Covid, I bought two cans of Chicken Noodle soup and a package of Digestive cookies. I finally threw the cookies away and need to check the date on the soup.

My tea bags are always stale. Guests decline having tea here.

If someone has an appetite when sick and craves something specific, I'd give them what they want but I'd still make them some homemade chicken and vegetable soup for later because it's healthier for them and eventually they will eat it and recover. :)

If I'm feeling unwell, nothing much appeals to me. I usually have homemade soup in the freezer, so I'll have whatever I find there, maybe a few crackers, and herbal tea. Having someone pat me a little and say, “Poor baby”, would be nice, too. 🤒

I know there was a time when I craved "Hot & Spicy Cheeze-Its" (mild Tabasco flavored cheese crackers) with tart cherry tomatoes when I felt lousy. I normally don't care for any vinegary hot sauce, but it seemed to work for those crackers dusted with a dry version. Probably malic acid and not vinegar?

With a cold, I like rose hip-camomile tea for the vitamin C in it. To clear my head if stuffed up, horseradish. If I've had an upset stomach, a Coke & a McDonald's hamburger when I start to get my appetite back & it's the only time I want one.

Pepsi. Lipton's Chicken Noodle soup. I find Campbell's chicken soup too salty and fake tasting. It sounds weird, but once I start feeling better I also crave a McDonald's hamburger like @Lilac said.

A huge bag of ready salted crisps, a big bowl of prawns, a large glass of single malt..... come to think of it, I have these goodies when I'm feeling fine as well. 😊

@timoc, you just reminded me ... hot toddy made with Maker's Mark or a cup of hot tea with a large splash of Barenjager honey liqueur. If I've been outside on a cold rainy day, a preemptive strike having a few shots of Jagermeister to warm up with.
