Some people they don't care how they get their fix. Sometimes if a person can convince the doctor that they need the drugs, the insurance will pay. When we deal with someone who is under the influence we are not dealing with the real person. This can have all kinds results. Those things are sold on the street here by the handful.
This is a good example ... I am sure there are others like your daughter that have a conscience .........My daughter is a pharmacist and has a host of stories she could tell. She can spot a fake script a mile away! She knows the doctors who prescribes pain pills and knows how much they prescribe. If she has a script from a doctor she has not filled scripts for in the past, she calls his office to check it out. She is not going to lose her license over a fake script. Of course she is an old school pharmacist and says a lot of the younger pharmacists are taken in by some patients.
In our state drugs are tracked and a pharmacy can see when you filled last and what it was for. I had a problem in an ER once. The doctor spoke to my pain management doc, came back and apologized.I was not saying pain medications are evil .... they serve a purpose and of course those in need of relief should be able to get medication.
I was referring to the one size fits all approach to handling the problems with the addicted .....
a friend broke his ribs ....went in and was treated as if he was a pill seeker without any reason for it .......
doctor poked hard on his ribs not taking him seriously until x-rays came back then doctor apologized for his attitude....... we are treating everyone as suspect in many cases while giving the benefit of doubt to some that are abusing pills.
Pain is not something that can be measured so it is on the honor system.
In the cases of many prescriptions more then a couple versions.. how is this getting by ... the pharmacies not wondering or perhaps someone is using many pharmacies ? .....
The doctors not aware of what others prescribed another person ?
Electronic records were supposed to help with that sort of thing.
i saw a TV commercial for some new drug ....saying " tell you doctor if you had a organ transplant ...."
seriously if a doctor is not aware of such a huge item in a medical history .... the doctor IMO should not be prescribing anything.......
I am wondering with all these tele -medicine visits now ....will this make it easier for the drug seeking patient ?
I have a friend whom is in same boat for pain management issue ....... questioned often about the length of time on drug etc.In our state drugs are tracked and a pharmacy can see when you filled last and what it was for. I had a problem in an ER once. The doctor spoke to my pain management doc, came back and apologized.
Well, doctors are lazy. If they looked they would see I’ve had a million spinal MRI’s and if they saw the MRI’s they would understand. Even my middle spine, which is usually safe and without issues, is crap. I can be fine one day and the next day I am screaming in pain and wheelchair bound.I have a friend whom is in same boat for pain management issue ....... questioned often about the length of time on drug etc.
has actually had to be assessed by a second doctor .... then was offered hypnosis / acupuncture trials to see if they could cut off meds.
With that said drugs are tracked in most places but this is still happening ............ I think there is a gap between what the system is said to be doing .............and what it actually does.
Obviously it is not catching enough of the bad actors while others in your shoes are repeated questioned.
