Competing for Whose Country? An Olympic Question.

I'm watching an opening jumping class right now. They just introduced two "Irishmen."

Both men live in the US, one in Pennsylvania, the other not far away. They have lived in the US for years and years.

As the first one was on course, the announcer said that he'd competed for Ireland in the Olympics and was competing for Ireland tonight.

I really have a problem with that. IMO, if you like America (or any other country) enough to want to live in it, you should represent it in the Olympics.

What do you think? Why?

Please can we have a mature, peaceful discussion, and share our ideas without attacking each other's opinions?

I finally just gave up and started laughing when the first "Irishman" won the class "for Ireland" and while they played the Irish national anthem the announcer kept saying "Let's hear it for Pennsylvania's very own [rider's name]!" I wanted to say, "Make up your mind! Is he Pennsylvania's very own, or Ireland's?"

I have to entirely agree. I believe you that you should totally embrace the country that you have made your hew home. And not claim "this is not fair, this is not like back home" just because the customs and traditions are different.
