I just got home and read this.. very sad, one of the worlds most prolific songwriters..
During his seven-decade career, he won a lifetime achievement award and wrote for stars including Dionne Warwick, Cilla Black, Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield.
Married 4 times.. and had a child by his then wife Angie Dickinson..
he had 73 top 40 hits in the US and 53 in the UK.. that's Genius
Oh no. With all that is going on, this got lost in my news feeds yesterday. IMO, he and Hal Davis were one of the greatest songwriter duos of all time. One of my favorite interpretations of his work is by Elvis Costello, who is a huge admirer of Bacharach. I think they were collaborating on a second album together.
I read this news yesterday. In fact, the story chronicled his life and it was a long article. There are people who have a rare genius for certain things, and Burt Bacharach is a sterling exemplar of this. Although he loved sports, his mother was the parent who fostered and developed his interest in the piano. (Moms know these things, I guess.)
We have so much to be thankful for musically when we listen to his compositions. Rest in peace.
When I was 18 years old, I was manager of the toy department at a small department store. All of us workers were young and we often had fun. One day one of the girls cracked open an album and we gathered around to listen. It was the first music I heard in stereo and I was blown away (pardon the pun), particularly by the horns. The album was Burt Bacharach's soundtrack for What's New Pussy Cat and I fell in love with these two tracks. They are on my Favorite Jazz & Instrumentals playlist and to this day I play them often. I even used one of these as my grandson's ringtone. The first one is broken into two parts, so more music after the pause. Mr. Bacharach had a long, illustrious career; sorry to hear of his passing. May he R.I.P. @Pecos
