Computer totally froze up twice today

I only have Firefox and even that is in extended support. I don't think the other browsers support Windows 7.
BTW - I don't have hardware acceleration selected.

Alright then Ms Deb. There are two things to try in Firefox that comes to mind.

First of all, make sure you're running the most up to date version of Firefox. Windows update does not update Firefox and you will have to do that manually. It's easy.

In Firefox, click Image on the top right corner of the window > Help > About Firefox
A small window will pop up and Firefox will automatically check for an update. Let it do its thing.
If it updates, then close and restart Firefox ... then go to Family Dollar and see if the problem is corrected.

If that didn't help, there's one other thing to try that I can think of and that is to run Firefox with all addons and themes disabled ... Safe Mode

Depending on the version of Firefox you are running, it could be called Safe Mode or it might be called Troubleshoot Mode

To start Firefox in Safe Mode, open Firefox, click on the menu icon, select "Help," and then choose "Restart with Add-ons Disabled." Confirm by clicking "Restart," and when prompted, select "Start in Safe Mode."

OR (depending on your Firefox version)

To start Firefox in Safe Mode, open Firefox, click on the menu icon, select "Help," and then choose "Troubleshoot Mode." Confirm by clicking "Restart"

When Firefox restarts in Safe Mode / Troubleshoot Mode ... then go to the Family Dollar site and see if everything works.
Once you close and reopen the browser, it will no longer be in Safe Mode / Troubleshoot Mode. And that's a good thing. You only want to see if running in Safe Mode / Troubleshoot Mode corrects the problem specifically on the Family Dollar site. It's not a good idea to be in Safe Mode / Troubleshoot Mode all the time and everywhere you browse.

Oh and hey @debodun ... when you update Firefox
In Firefox, click Image on the top right corner of the window > Help > About Firefox
And the smaller window pops up and Firefox does its thing ... what VERSION number of Firefox are you running?
The version number is in that pop up window ... the most recent version is 135.0 that came out on 04 February.
(my version is 134.0.2 ... the latest available for my Linux distribution)

I couple of days ago, I got a Microsoft update. I have tablet and a desk computer. Both machines, now say when I shut down that there's some Microsoft program that won't shut down, I have to manually close the program.
Coincidence with all the other problems people are having???????

If any app is still running while you are doing shutdown then BEFORE shutting down, open Task Manager and check the processes tab and look for any apps or processes that are still running. If you find any app that shouldn’t be running, you can right-click and select end task ... then try a shutdown. If there are several apps or processes listed, maybe try one at a time to find the "offending" app or process.

@debodun ... you probably don't have all three browsers ... edge, chrome, firefox ... but I don't know what you have or use and included instructions for all three. Would be interesting to know if you tried more than one browser or not though.

EDIT: Oh and I just looked at the family dollar site and clicked on a couple of the prepaid phones with no problem, but I'm using Linux and Firefox. I know that info does you no good. Sorry. Just added to say, I didn't have an issue with it.
Oh so you're a rebel 🐧 I just installed Ubuntu for learning how to set up a real Apache/MySQL/PHP server.

Also @fuzzybuddy ... don't know what version of Windows you're running but I have Windows 11 on a laptop and had update issues at one time.

There is a feature on the settings page for updates that allows, "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available"
When I had update problems and after I subsequently reloaded Windows, I made sure to turn that latest updates feature button OFF

Now I eventually get all the updates in a timely manner, no rush and apparently no more update problems ... so far

EDIT: I also don't download and install any updates that are listed as "Cumulative Update Preview" in the update list.
Don't want a preview version of anything. I'll wait until the regular and tested update comes out.

I go to the HELP tab, then About Firefox. That shows me what version I have:

I actually had to look up Firefox ESR and found ...

Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) is a version of the Firefox web browser designed for organizations and users who prefer to receive major updates less frequently, providing greater stability and security. It receives major updates approximately every 52 weeks, along with necessary security and stability fixes, making it suitable for environments where consistent performance is essential.

I'd try a regular version of the latest Firefox at the link I listed above and see if that fixes the problem.

@debodun ...
I'd have to see for myself that the newest regular release doesn't work on Win 7 to believe it ;)

If someone did switch from an ESR to a regular release, they should uninstall the ESR before installing the regular release.
Of course download the regular release first ... just don't install it until the ESR is uninstalled.
How do I switch from Extended Support Release to regular Firefox?

And that link above even lists a download link for the regular release too ...
Choose which Firefox Browser to download

BUT ... If what you say is indeed true about ESR being the only one that works on Win 7, all that would be a waste of time I guess.
Just can't wrap my head around why an ESR would work on Win 7 and a regular release wouldn't.
After all, the only difference I see between ESR and Regular is how often they're updated.
... Could be more to it I'm not aware of and honestly I'm just thinking out loud right now ... I'll get my hat and coat :ROFLMAO:

Weird. My old Windows 7 froze this morning too. I disconnected then reconnected and all was well again.
I hope your not on the internet with that Windows 7 computer, that OS is no longer supported by Microsoft they no longer receive patches, so are vulnerable. Upgrade to a Windows 11 machine.

But, if it’s never exposed to the internet then all is well.

There was a recent issue with the February 2025 Windows 11 update, specifically the KB5051987 patch. Users reported that this update caused problems with File Explorer, making it unresponsive when trying to open folders like Desktop, Documents, or Pictures. Some users also experienced issues with the sidebar becoming inoperable.

I am on the Internet, but I don't do any banking or visit other security sensitive sites.
