Constipation

I have heard that a perfectly polite greeting between old-world Chinese folks is, "Have you had a good bowel movement today?"

When I was a kid, we used to laugh about the golden oldies talking about their internal workings all the time, but now that I'm one of those golden oldies myself, it's not so humorous anymore......it's serious business, y'know.

Gee , some of you guys are funny with the jokes.
I used to have problems in that dept. (constipation) but rare now. I do eat lettuce almost every day and olive oil. I used to eat more white flour products (read processed) but not as much now. I tend to go the other way (loose bowels) if I eat too much chocolate (read: more than 2 small pieces) and grabbing some of my son's poutine. Most take-out food is a no no.

My morning coffee seems to do the trick.

After a lifetime of suffering, I found Kellogs All Bran fixed the problem, it's not my favourite cereal but it's pure joy to be able to say I'm cured.
Thank you Mr Kellog :)

I tried eating that once, and once was enough. It reminded me of cattle feed.
LOL, Lady you are made of stronger stuff than me.

I find using a Metamucil product to work very well, Walmart has its cheaper brand Equate, it's basically just an easier to take version of Psyllium Husks. It's not so much a laxative, but a natural stool softener, good for those with hemorrhoids. Also, taking a supplement of Magnesium Citrate daily also is beneficial.

Stooll softeners and laxatives are not interchangeable. They’re different

There is a lot of confusion about laxatives and stool softeners because a lot of folks suffer from constipation. Some have problems because their stool is so hard. Some because their intestines just don’t contract the way they’re supposed to to expel what’s building up I’m their large intestine, whether it’s hard OR soft.

Osmotic laxatives. These laxatives draw water into the intestines from the surrounding tissues.

Bulk-forming laxatives. Often derived from plants, these laxatives help form a watery gel in the intestines that adds both body and lubrication to the stool.

Stimulant laxatives. Fast acting laxatives that can stimulate the intestines into having a bowel movement.

Saline laxatives. Magnesium-based laxatives that pull water into the intestines.
Lubricant laxatives. Oily laxatives that coat the intestines to help move stool through quicker.

Guanylate cyclase-C agonist laxatives. Certain drugs both increase water in the gastrointestinal tract and make the stool move through the colon faster.

Its important to know WHY you’re constipated in order to come up with the appropriate solution.

It's not important for me to know why in order to fix it. Just sayin'.

I rarely get trouble these days, unless I travel. Those little packets of Metamucil help, but typically it is hard to get enough fiber eating in airports and restaurants.

Never a problem

I can poop on commend
I remember those days but those days are gone.
I guess I can say that I get constipated at both ends.😲
The #1 my doctor calls it the woman's curse against the men. He said that we joked in the early years about the woman's monthly's, now it payback when us men get older with the enlarged prostate and it's hard to go. dribble dribble.
The #2 Vitafusion Fiber Well sugar free gummies work well for me.

A Manager of a drug store walks in to find a frightened guy leaning against a wall.
He asks the clerk: "What's with that guy over there by the wall?"
The clerk explained, "Well, he came in this morning to get something for his cough. We're out of cough syrup so I gave him a bottle of laxative & suggested he drink the whole thing."
"You idiot!" yells the manager. "You can't treat a cough with laxatives!"
"Of course you can," says the clerk. "Look at him; he's afraid to cough!"

My statins cause constipation....so I eat a lot of oat based cereal and oat cakes...and it’s a good excuse to eat hobnobs.
And take an Aloe Vera tablet every day.Aloe is supposedly good for the digestive system
