Contractor wouldn't take job

I need a storm door installed. The previous owner left it in the garage, so I just really need labor. A contractor just left saying the light was too close to the door making him feel uncomfortable that he might bump into it while installing a door. If he's that incompetent, I should be happy he didn't want the job.

What a totally, useless contractor that just doesn't have a clue about being a contractor. Perhaps he would rather be looking at "important messages from loved ones" on his smartphone while sitting in his truck and listening to rap music. Hey, why work when the government gives out free money?

OMG that has to be the most woke snowflake excuse I've ever heard...

Probably wouldn't make enough money, so he made up that lame excuse.
Likely reason. Some handymen can make money and never do a lick of work by charging a "trip fee" to give an estimate, then saying they can't do the job. Some won't do it unless they supply the materials, too. One time (back in the 1970s), I had a headlight out on my Gremlin. I though I could save money by buying the light at an auto parts store and just having a garage install it. The mechanic I went to at that time refused saying, "You don't bring your own food to a restaurant and tell them to cook it for you."

???????? That's a weird one. You need a handy man. A guy in my stepfather's mobile home park does handy work. He installed two of those heavy metal screen doors for him. That's what I need if I ever buy a mobile because my tabby will shred regular screen doors.

From looking at the photo I can see that the hinges on the screen door would be on the opposite side from the light. No way to "bump" into it.
There must have been another door there at one time because I can see where the hinges were screwed in the frame. Why the previous owner never had it installed would just be speculation. I really need an outer door because in cold weather, I can feel it coming in at that door. I can actually see light around the inner door. This past winter I put tape all around the sides and stuffed an old blanket at the bottom.

Re @Becky1951's recommendation, this is the first review:

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to apply

After trying other weatherstripping products to eliminate an open area between my condo fire door and the jamb, I found this product that is perfect for a senior lady to apply without help. The back peels off and you just hold it with your left hand and stick it on with your right hand. Voila! No space for light or noise to come through and the door bolt can close easily. Very pleased!

I've used it myself, works great, easy to apply, and inexpensive.

Adding universal weatherstrip is hit and miss if it will work. Each door manufacturer uses a different type of weatherstrip. Yours may need to be replaced or the door slab may not be placed into the frame correctly. Cold from the bottom may be a worn door sweep, again, different makes use different styles. If it isn't worn, you may have an adjustable threshold that needs to be adjusted. Most contractors and handymen can replace a door, but don't know how to tune it. Finish carpenters do, because they are picky. If you can find such a person, they are not cheap, but a door that fits like it should saves money in energy and comfort.

Wow, possibly one of the weakest excuses I have ever heard. Please tell me he didn't charge you to come look at it.
