Does anyone here still cook with Corningware ? Can it be used stovetop ?

I am thinking about trying to cook pork-chops stove-top in a deep Corningware [casserole] dish and put my potatos , onions & carrots in with them , in broth, sort of mimicking a crockpot. Cooking on low heat for an extended time. My crockpot, [while it cooks fine] is a pain in the ass to get cleaned up afterwards.

Of course a deep [steel] pan may be better ?

All glass-ceramic CORNINGWARE® can be used in conventional, convection, toaster and microwave ovens, on a rangetop, under a broiler, in the refrigerator, freezer and in the dishwasher. Use only wooden, nylon or plastic utensils. Metal utensils can scratch or leave gray marks.

Google told me...although I've never done it.

I'd use the deep steel pan.

I have boiled things stove top in Corning Ware but never what you are talking about. You could use the Corning Ware to do it but put it in the oven. I generally use it in the oven for meat loaf and things like that.

Used some for a while. Unfortunately, as it's good items, the box disappeared during one move. Bummer!

Had to replace with generic which was crap, rusted all over after we discovered a leak from boiler, the extra items were packed away there. The others were okay but rusted over time.

Got IKEA set, one by one over 20 years. Made two additions recently, one was roasting tin and soup pot.

Years ago they sold a device to use on the stove burner with your Corning Ware. It looked like a clothes hanger bent in the shape of a star.

For your recipe, I’d put it in the oven on a low temperature.

I appreciate all the responses Thank you all.

Reason for my question/idea is ... After N/Years I need to call an appliance repair , as my oven quit working . Or I need a new stove/oven . About two weeks ago , I set it as always [to pre-heat] and the timer [I guess] has gone bad, the gas was on , and when the piezo ignited .... it blew the door open, and shook the house [no fire] as such I choose not to use it until repaired/replaced .

So, I guess I'll give in and use the crockpot , before the chops go bad in the fridge . Not sure I trust doing them in a steel pot [stove-top] for fear they'll not be tender.

I’ve used old fashioned Corning Ware on top of my electric stove for 51 years and have never had a problem. It’s become a little discolored over the years but that’s just from heavy use.

Well ... I did use a medium sized C/ware cassrole dish, just did the chops & an onion , olive oil, & seasoning, they came out just fine, and even tender.

Now I need to get my stove repaired, or buy a new one.
