Cop26 is over (at last)

The party's over till the next one. The leaders will say that it's been a success. The protesters will say that it's been a failure (but I think they'd say that anyway). Glasgow will get back to some sort of normality and the private jets will fly off to their home base.

I wonder if anything will actually come of it, or will it become just more 'hot air'? The only thing that I would predict is that prices will rise and those least able to afford it will be hardest hit.

I'm just glad that it's over.

John Kerry said

"It's a good deal for the world," U.S. climate envoy John Kerry told The Associated Press. "It's got a few problems, but it's all in all a very good deal."

From the article

"Almost 200 nations accepted a contentious climate compromise Saturday aimed at keeping a key global warming target alive, but it contained a last-minute change that watered down crucial language about coal.

Several countries, including small island states, said they were deeply disappointed by the change promoted by India to "phase down," rather than "phase out" coal power, the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Nation after nation had complained earlier on the final day of two weeks of U.N. climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland about how the deal did not go far or fast enough, but they said it was better than nothing and provided incremental progress, if not success."

Much like past "climate" meetings, this one will most likely turn out to accomplish nothing of substance. Any restrictions placed on fossil fuel use will just drive prices higher, and create financial problems for those who can least afford it. The biggest polluters will continue to pollute, and it will take decades to develop sufficient means of "clean energy" to offset the use of fossil fuels.

This will just turn out to be another "luxury vacation" for the participants.
