Cost of food increasing

Have you noticed the rapid increase in the price of food ? I've just refused to pay an extortionate amount for apples, the assistant asked if there was a problem so I told her, 'Not with the apples but I'd want shares in the orchard for that price' !

Most of the basics are still a good value in my area but I have noticed increases in the price and availability of fresh meat and some produce.

The other prices that continually shock and amaze me are the price of bread, rolls, English muffins, etc...

Lately, I've been taking inspiration from Jacques Pepin and his short videos on FB presented in collaboration with the Jacques Pepin Foundation.

This morning's offering was making a simple banana sorbet in the food processor using a couple of dilapidated old bananas, a dollop of sour cream, and a drizzle of honey.

Apples are available year round but the apple 'season' in the U.S. is in the fall. For instance, Washington State apples are harvested from August to December. But, yes, most food items have gone up.

Vicious circle for me .... I go to the store less often, buy more, look at the HUGE receipt and then tell myself to go even less often.
Not sure how that even makes any sense. ... but yes, everything seems to be going up in price.

Store shelves seem to be filled again, so I find myself doubling up on things that were scarce the last few months.

One of the larger supermarket chains in my area have definitely raised their prices on a lot of items IMO because of an increase in overhead costs - higher wages, safety protocols, new security personnel etc. Fortunately there are also a few family run small grocery stores/specialty food shops (butcher, etc) where you can still get some good deals plus most offer curbside pick-up.

I hate the sneaky price increase. I had recently bought some 20 oz. hazelnut creamer for $1.23. Now, for the same $1.23 you only get a 13 oz. container.
It's not just food. Just bought some more Hydraulic fluid for my tractor. I buy 5 gallon buckets. Newest one now say's 18 liter's. A quick check shows that I'm now only getting 4.7 gallons for the same money I paid for 5 gallons before.:mad:

We've seen some temporary price increases at our local grocery stores....usually related to "supply" issues. Some meat prices have gone up, and stayed up due to the problems this virus has caused at some of the processing plants. The strangest increase I've seen was for eggs....for about 2 weeks they were charging almost $4 a dozen....now, its a dollar, or less, again.

Yes.
On my last trip to the grocery store, around a month ago, I spent around $20. Yesterday, I spent nearly $43. The only significant difference was yesterday I bought a small cut of corned beef- was one of the cheapest, and cost more than $15.
The slightly larger, point-cut, were more than $25... definitely did not want to spend that much!!

I have noticed some prices going up. And still finding things harder to find. Food and non food. I wanted to stock up on cleaning supplies, as I had coupons about to expire. Most I ended up not using as they product was out of stock.
Have not been noticing meat shortages here, though.

I buy produce at Aldi, they often have a sale on fresh fruits and veggies. This week, I bought several lbs of seedless, red grapes for .85/lb. They were so sweet, wish I bought more. They often have a sale on gala, pink lady or red Washington apples for 1.77 to 1.99 per 3 lb bag, there's about 10 to 12 apples, depending on the size.

Aldi sale ads here in the USA start on Wednesday.

Prices for food are going up.... but still, there are bargains to be found. It is summertime... more hotdogs, bologna, and hamburgers, which are cheaper. I always look for the discounted meats, and I usually can find some. I got 5 ribeyes last week for about $3.30 each... that was very good. Produce is higher, but once the garden comes in, those prices will come down. There has been a food war in this area for about 4-5 years, every since Aldi entered the market in this area. Milk...99 cents a gallon... eggs 88 cents.... you just can't beat those prices. Grapes were 2.49 a pound in the local IGA. Watermelon $7. I have grapevines and planted melons... so...
