I saw this on another forum. Wonder how many think they could win the challenge?
If you don't think you could do it now as a senior, would it have been possible when
you were in your 20's?

72-ounce Steak Challenge Rules

1. Entire meal must be completed in one hour. If any of the meal is not consumed (swallowed)…YOU LOSE!

2. Before the time starts, you will be allowed to cut into the steak, and take one bite. If the steak tastes good and is cooked to your satisfaction, we will start the time upon your acceptable approval. The time will not stop, and the contest is on, so make SURE before you say “yes.”

3. Once you have started you are not allowed to stand up, leave your table, or have anyone else TOUCH the meal.

4. You will be disqualified if anyone assists you in cutting, preparing or eating of your meal. This is YOUR contest.

5. You don’t have to eat the fat, but we will judge this.

6. Should you become ill, the contest is over… YOU LOSE! (Please use the container provided as necessary.)

7. You are required to pay the full amount up front; if you win we will refund 100%.

8.You must sit at a table that we assign.

9. If you do not win the steak challenge, you are welcome to take the leftovers with you.

10. No consumption or sharing of the leftovers is allowed in the restaurant once the contest is over.

Driven by it many a time. One of Amarillo's biggest claims to fame. However I never worked up the nerve to try.

I knew a guy who worked there, he had some pretty wild tails to tell. People throwing up at the table and the like. One thing he said was that you could not predict by a person's appearance who could do it. Some of their winners were petite women and a lot of the losers were big men.

I have eaten a 16 oz ribeye (medium rare) in the specialty Steakhouse Restaurant on different cruises. It's the only time I really eat a lot of meat. Anyway, I could barely finish those meals. I skipped the salad and dessert for obvious reasons.

There is absolutely no way I could ever beat that challenge. We use to have this burger place in my area that had a 9 patty burger challenge like that which also included French Fries and a Large Milk Shake. There was also some sort of time limit that is all had to be eaten in.

This reminds me of the Food Network Channel show Man Versus Food where he takes on all this different crazy food challenges from food that is huge amounts of food to food that is extremely hot.

My husband often charcoal grills us boneless ribeyes that are around a pound each. Although we could easily eat the steak and an oven broiled vegetable as a side, and we have in the past, we usually have some steak left over for a sandwich another day made on a French baguette. I'd never be in a food eating contest or eat an extreme amount of beef like that, I don't hate myself. ;)

We used to watch that sometimes and thought that guy was crazy and very abusive to himself. He did eat hot spicy foods to excess too, that is just hard to understand.

Seventy two ounces, that's four and a half pounds, good grief, it's promoting gluttony. When I lived in London I remember seeing some place, I wouldn't call it a restaurant, that had a promotion, all you could eat, for a given fixed price. You hear people moan about their weight, is it surprising when they pig out on promotions like that?

I think you would need to be a crocodile to eat one of them. 😊

I would like the salad, potato and dessert. Since I was a child, meat has just been something I have to eat in order to earn dessert. I'm on a low carb diet right now. It's awful.

"The Simpsons" had an episode based on one of these contests. Of course Homer won, but the truck driver he was competing with had a heart attack and died. Truth in cartoons.

We have that in common, while i crave meat sometimes, i was never a big meat eater at any one sitting. If i 'cleaned my plate' (which Dad loaded), was still hungry (rare) and there was enough available i was more likely to take second helpings of side dishes, vegetables. i tend to favor stews and casseroles with bitefuls of meat included most of the time.
