she had that little cabinet by the door where she had food stored. it looked to me like they were living off stuff they could eat without cooking. can you imagine?..with 3 other people...?

This makes me so sad. Where is she? She mentioned Pesos. Mexico? The children are yelling the whole time. They need real food, clean clothes, clean bathroom, there's no water pressure. She sprays their clothes with fabreeze (toxic and stinks) so they can wear them over and over?
I don't call this "living in 36 sqft". I call it dying in unsanitary conditions. Child welfare needs to get involved. There are people who want to help her if they just knew where she was.

Well 2 of us with a 70 Lb dog have managed quite well for over 3 years in 220 SqFt....
Gets quite tight when the 9 YO grandson and Daughters 2 Dog join us.

Yes I saw that but apparently she's not using the tub enough because of 2 things she said...lack of water and spraying their clothes with fabreeze so they can wear them over and over.

She did say she had a neighbour next door, so it was hard to tell whose washing was whose.. and as Lara said she did say she was spraying her clothes with febreeze, although I'm sure the kids clothes would have needed washing much more regularly than the others...

and that's 6 times the size this family of 4 are living in...so can you imagine trying to live in it?..I did wonder when she said she wouldn't use a certain drawer in case she forgot things were in there... how could you foget anything in that tiny space.. ?..

Well, lack of clean clothes is a drop in the bucket (no time for puns) compared to all their other issues. She has a sandwich maker but no food and no fridge. What is she going to use for sandwich makings? Cookies and pepsi? She says the kids eat cereal dry out of a bag. No milk

She's probably terrified to ask for help from social services in case she loses her youngest children... it's a very sad situation to be in..I'd love to know her back story . She's rightly not giving out where she lives..she seems to live in fear of burglaries... however go fund me pages and the like cannot help if people don't know where she lives ...rock and a hard place

She sounds exactly like Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa from the Food Network) who is from Connecticut. Well, we're not going to find her. If she's in Mexico then I can see why mothers are abandoning their kids at the US border for free care and benefits. Heartbreaking.

She's clearly afraid of someone breaking in and stealing from her (bought a cheap phone no one "will want to steal") and so I'm thinking the Mexican Drug Cartel. She said she's living in the mountains...that could be anywhere but mountains in Canada and US are basically safe...not in Mexico where at least 400 gangs are fighting for land.

Yes as soon as she started talking about Pesos and mountains I just presumed immediately that she's living in Mexico...but definitely not Mexican...

The video seems contrived or short-term to me.
The woman mentioned not putting things in a drawer so she wouldn't forget them, an American iPhone and a Mexican burner phone, etc...
To answer the original question I couldn't live in such close quarters with active families at this point in my life but I probably could live alone in that setting if I had to.

She uses the pesos to buy the Mexican phone so she probably buys the phone in a Mexican shop and does not want to use her other money, otherwise idk. The door is a security door and it seems you can see through it as you can the neighbors door. I think she is living in what used to be a storage area.
She uses a waffle maker to cook with and actually you can make quite a few things with a waffle maker. She has juice for her kids and they have cups. A lot of kids and adults eat cereal out of a plastic bag, or the cereal box, or in case of babies cereal on a tray. Bowls are not necessary. Milk is not necessary.
She lives in a market area and is surrounded by markets. Which means she buys the rest of her food fresh daily, and they either eat at the wayside stands or benches which are probably throughout the area. I sure those markets sell milk. I personally can’t stand the stuff and did not drink it after babyhood.
True, the room is very small, but she said they don’t stay in it during the day but walk about so the kids get plenty of fresh air, lots of exercise instead of sitting all day like American kids do in front of a computer or tv. She said the kids had iPads-iPads are a resource for kids for learning.
@Lara she does not need social service intervention, IMO. She is poor, being poor is not a crime. I have been so poor that I washed clothes in the bathtub cause I did not have a dime for the machine. So what? As for rewearing clothes, OMGOSH I do that now, lots of people do.
In fact, I’ve always done that, most people have. But especially during Covid-19 where you are only wearing clothes inside for the most part. Not everyone has a lot of different clothes. But she showed clean clothes, folded and hung for the children. It was her clothes that she sprayed and hung. She probably has less than her kids.
As for the small space, have you ever crammed the family into a motel room for two weeks on vacation? Most people have. She just is having to deal long term with a small space. At least she is not living in a tent in a park as many are now.
I think she is amazing and coping well.

If she is in Canada and spending time outdoors then my guess is British Columbia, mountains are there and it is not as frigid in winter as the rest of Canada. The money is Toonies and she has quite a few there.

On degrees of being poor, this scrapes the bottom of the barrel. The woman has no upper teeth and the toilet does not even have a seat. When I think about the kids playing in that outdoor area I shudder. What do they play with? Rats for pets?
