Two climbers on Mount Everest have tested positive for Covid-19 and others have been airlifted to hospital, as tourists flock back to the world’s highest peak.

Hundreds of foreign climbers and support staff have returned to Everest base camp in Nepal for the first time since the mountain was closed by the pandemic last year. Just days before teams begin their assault on the summit next month, however, health officials have confirmed that at least seven climbers were evacuated in recent days and hospitalized in Kathmandu. At least two, a Norwegian and a Sherpa on his team, are known to have tested positive for Covid-19.
