"New Zealand has revealed plans to hand down a carbon tax to farmers in order to tackle one of the country's biggest sources of greenhouse gasses: barnyard animals that fart and burp too much.
The price on agricultural emissions would make New Zealand the first country to make farmers pay for the gasses that their cows or sheep produce.
New Zealand, a large agricultural exporter, is home to five million people.
Compare that to about 10 million cattle and 26 million sheep. Now that is a lot of burps and farts."

I don't know what happened to my first post ! They have been talking about introducing the fart tax for years, it's ludicrous. If they really wanted to be seen to be doing something take all the old run down cars off the roads they spew emissions, that would do for starters, but at the end of the day we play a small part in the scheme of things, any gasses we get rid of will not save the world from climate change, not even help to.

Methane is probably the potentially worst pollutant in our atmosphere....especially as the millions of tons locked in the permafrost begins to be released. Animals do account for quite a bit, but unless humans decided to become Vegans, taxing flatulence will do little other than increasing food costs.
