A coward pos neighbor in a condo building in Tampa Florida poisoned a family because a child was making too much noise with a toilet seat. An ex chemistry major laced their doorway with an opioid cocktail. Alleged to have mixed in a college lab but they say they don't keep that class of drugs on hand.

Ex-chemistry student accused of injecting opioid under neighbor’s door used university lab to mix dangerous toxins

Suspect arrested, released on bond to a court date in December. Condo residents are trying to get him out and the neighbor has sued him.

Hmmm, in a condo in Florida as a college student. Unless a sponsored foreign national student where did he get the money to buy a Florida condo & go to college at the sametime.

I read the article, they mentioned methadone & hydrocodone was in the mixture, but I wonder what else may have been in it & that info hasn't been released yet. He could have just as easily used fentanyl & I hate to think of what those results could have been with the small child who lived there. There are differently some very disturbed individuals in the world walking at large. I wonder if he has attempted something like this before ... I sure wouldn't put it past him to try it again on someone else.

Blimey, it's all part of our 0 to 100MPH society isn't it? Get annoyed at a neighbor - KILL THEM, with no steps in between.

Just makes you wonder what type of mentality even THINKS of doing this to anyone...., and now it's been reported in the Media, how many other people will get the same idea..

With regard to being able to afford a Condo... he's 36.. so he's not a young student..

Some people who own a condo unit RENT it out to someone else, as a source of income. Perfectly normal practice. Lets see what further information is disclosed, shall we ? JimB.

My granddaughter is a college student, sharing a condo on campus with 3 other students. It's nicer and less expensive than living in the dorm. Lots of college students have done this for many years. My daughter (her mother) did it also. Renting a condo can be a very thrifty alternative. You don't have to own the place.

Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't think why Li thought he could actually kill with that method. The pics are sickening of him committing the crime.
@VaughanJB is right----Blimey!
He was casual yet seemingly on a mission knowing his target included children.

In a way because of the definitive(was going to use assertive but not here) way he carried out his 'mission' you could sense a "I got you now" moment. There was no hesitation or trepidation. He just went ahead like it was nothing.

He did this over a distant clacking noise from a child playing with a toilet seat during the day.
Now he'll get to spend many years in a place they call, "the slammer," because of the clanging cell doors that bang on 24 hours a day. :)

Apparently according to more in today's papers... this guy has a wife and 2 kids downstairs as well.. and had acted like a friendly neighbour to his victims.. altho' he had complained on several occasions about the noise coming from the flat.. and the victims had tried to address that by wearing softer shoes for example..

Abdullah added that he was shocked by what his secret camera recording revealed because Li had seemed like a 'regular guy' and even a 'friendly' neighbor who often stopped to chat in the hallway.

He said that Li is also a father to two young children and has a wife..
Their relations were rosy in August 2022, when Abdullah's baby was born, with Li sending him a text to ask how his wife and newborn daughter were doing.

Abdullah told the DailyMail.com Li even came to their door with gifts for their daughter, and congratulated them by text on their 'really adorable girl'.

But his noise complaints began days later, with Li asking if the family could 'walk slower' to prevent him hearing their footsteps at night.

Text messages seen by DailyMail.com show how Li regularly complained about minor noises - from the toilet seat moving to someone dropping their phone on the ground.

Meanwhile, Abdullah offered to buy cushioned footwear to reduce the impact of their footsteps, and to visit Li's apartment so he could see what it sounded like for himself.

But tensions reached a head in March this year when Abdullah's family visited, and Li called the police on them within 15 minutes of their arrival, complaining about the noise of their luggage scraping across the floor.
Three months later, Li sought his revenge by planting a noxious mix of chemicals at the family's front door while they were away at an Ohio conference.

When they returned in early June, they were plagued by an 'obnoxious' smell and soon began feeling sick while losing clumps of hair.

Abdullah believed the smell to be coming from his air conditioning unit or his water heater, but plumbers and officials who investigated found no issues.

His landlord even replaced the heater and had his air ducts and vents cleaned - but the chemical smell persisted.

Desperate to find out what was plaguing his family, Abdullah called the fire department who sent in a Hazmat team - but their tests drew a blank.

'I was sniffing the place like a dog,' he said.

The sniff test led him to his doorway, where he found a small crack in the corner.

Only now beginning to suspect some form of tampering had taken place, Abdullah set up a hidden camera in a potted plant outside his door.

I've had issues with noisy neighbors and would nothing better to catch them or have the police or landlord catch them in the act but never considered taking them out. Maybe some one on one time And he should be so lucky that the worst sounds are a dropping toilet seat or phone. The scrapping luggage can be noisy depending on the user/bag(wheels might need lubing).

It sounds like the suspect isn't one of those people that always must have music or tv on, he like's quiet and can focus on what he's doing without electronic media. But again the leap to murder-nah, there something else going on in his head, between them or in the building.

I do think tho' that the walls must be super thin for someone to hear a toilet seat banging.. or dropping of a phone

Luggage scraping along a floor above you is super annoying as is furniture dragging.. as anyone who has stayed in hotels with marble flooring in the room above will attest.. but none of these things could have been occurring day and night..

I do think badly designed housing is a serious problem for some people with regard to noise... especially if sleep is affected

During the peak of the virus lockdowns, work from home etc neighbor noise complaints surged. That being said in this case the floors/ceilings are the issue. Alot of the time sub floor underneath carpeting the wood needs replacing.

In Florida tile floors are popular because they are easier to maintain but they also can produce sounds like scrapping luggage. But that also a sign of a sub floor issue. I know alot of people and probably contractors probably put hardwood or tile floors on top of older wood. Also alot of do it yourselfers use adhesive backed tiles which are super thin. Some buildings probably never put in the proper thickness. To me it should be 3/4" plywood but older construction used 3/8" wood.

My guess this is a perfect storm of building, object of people issues/habits. I would've tried to get recordings of the noises and then with proof talk to the neighbor/landlord. Worse case should be get a lawyer. worst case. Not the tools of murder.

I've lived in apartments most of my life. You have to learn to ignore the noise of others and make your own.

Apartment living creates enemies; as long as one is making noise at "legal" times, there is nothing that can be done, not in NYC. I've lived in bldgs that bands lived in. Of course I was much younger then and probably liked it.

You mention bands because electronic noise is a huge problem now a days because people are doing stuff in an apartment that really should be done in house including installing home theater sound systems for movies, music or game playing. That's what many of the systems were designed for especially the concrete shell of a basement.

It's a two way street in apartments as well just as one has to be 'tolerant' of other's noises those making the noise have to be aware they are in an apartment and not a house.

But again escalation to murder? I would understand a heat of the moment fight turning into murder but this was calculated.

Imagine spending huge amounts of cash for a private home, and your neighbors are noisy! Garage bands; cars without mufflers! Neighbors who won't mow their lawns! It happens!

Been there done that. Had a pothead neighbor who waited until his first fine or two of year before he would mow his lawn. One year he let it go so long the landscaper wanted more than double and 2-3 trips. He was a musician want to be. Even built a bargain basement studio in his basement. Cops will nail eventually stop the cars with noisy mufflers.

According to one source, these are the charges.

Xuming Li, 36, stands accused of three counts of battery, two counts of aggravated stalking, and one count each of burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and battery on law enforcement.

We investigated a landlord who had a tenant that was always late paying his rent. He warned the tenant that if he was late again, he would put him on the bottom of the list when or if he needed a repair done in his apartment.

In January of that year, the tenant’s furnace wasn’t working properly. Instead of calling a pro to repair the furnace, the landlord said he would look at it. As it turned out, he knew about as much about repairing a furnace as I do about brain surgery.

The landlord did something with the vent pipes and ended up with the spent gas or carbon monoxide was allowed to enter the apartment. There were 4 residents in the apartment, 2 adults and 2 children. All 4 became very ill and 2 were near death. After the Investigators finished with the investigation, they determined that the landlord intentionally caused the catastrophe.

The DA didn’t think he could prove it was an intentional act, so he was only charged with 2 minor felony charges, which slip my mind at the moment. The landlord was found guilty of the one charge and not guilty of the other charge. He was sentenced to 12 months in County prison with 6 months suspended and a fine, which I forget how much, but I believe it was around $2500.

I spoke with the landlord a few times. There was no doubt in my mind that he was not qualified to work on the furnace and it was most likely an accident.
