Crazy Behavior at Airports & in Planes

So, what does everyone think about the crazy behavior of brawls and erratic behavior at airports and on planes these days? What happened to courtesy and respect? I know it’s not everywhere, but still it’s on the news daily now.

Easy solution, stop selling alcohol on planes or limit it to only one or 2.... and make everyone hand their passport over each time they buy a drink at the airports and no more than 2 alcoholic drinks before boarding..

I’ve got no solution for anxiety projected from large groups of stressed out individuals. I’m having a difficult time managing my own at times. Going to the airport and getting on a plane with loads of frantic people isn’t on my bucket list of things to do.

Maybe better screening for drugs and alcohol. I realize the sale of alcohol is big business but it also creates inhibition to those already stressed out. Some countries also have legalized marijuana and the combination of the two can quickly create complete inebriation making it a danger to all involved.

Maybe even have a 20 minutes briefing given to those about to be boarded for better screening. The briefing would hopefully help calm those about to board and pinpoint those who might otherwise be unstable. With the tragedy of 911, I would have thought something like this would have already been implemented.

I like your 20 minute briefing before boarding idea. Maybe a list of expectations of behavior, and a list of consequences like fines?

I'm about done with flying. If I have to I will but otherwise I'll stay travel by car.
yes it's easy for you guys who live in lanlocked countries..or huge countries where you can go on vacation and enjoy a completely different experience than at home... whereas, when you live on an Island like we do... we pretty much have to fly everywhere if we want to experience something different to what we're used to on a day to day basis... that said.. I've had about enough of the airport experience myself too...there's too many crowds too many delays, too many long waits, too many troublemakers.. too much added extras which cost too much money, and in any other parts of life where we have a traumatic experience like that, we wouln't ever do it again..or at least we'd leave it a few years before we put ourselves through it.. but when it comes to flying it's usually a vacation or holiday... and we suffer on the outward journey, arrive frazzled and exhausted, take a couple of days to get over it only to have to do it all over again 2 weeks later on the return.. crazyness

Airlines have tried many different things to get passengers to act normal. I know they are using a “no fly” list now for those who can’t control themselves while onboard the aircraft. When passengers are disruptive to the point where the pilots have to leave the cockpit to control the situation, that’s not only bad, but it’s also unsafe. There’s a reason why there are two pilots in the cockpit.

Passengers that cannot control themselves will go on the do not fly list and that will bring about a lot more issues. How hard is it to board the plane and sit in a seat for a few hours? We know it’s a long boring ride, but it’s what you accept when you buy your ticket.

Please, just sit in your seat, read a book or play a game for a few hours and everyone will remain safe. Thank you.

of course it's the minority who spoil it for the Majority. Just yesterday there was a report of a British couple sooo drunk when they boarded the plane in the morning.. that they dropped their Baby, TWICE on it's head on the floor ... when cabin crew went to rescue the child the mother screamed at them .. they had to be escorted off the plane by the police, and have been banned from flying by that particular airline. In my mind they should have been banned from flying period..but more of a concern is that , if that's how they show contempt for their child.. what is happening at home to that poor baby..

It is not all alcohol all though that should be limited .... in my opinion................ far too many people simply have no concept of anything but themselves....
They do not see their throwing a fit or other silly things effect everyone on board ......they are not the only people who are delayed

Recent trip i took was honestly great for me ...........as a people watcher who can sit back and enjoy the show .........

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people with mental problems out there who can cope and behave normally under normal conditions but a combination of rushing to the airport, standing in lines, standing in lines, standing in lines and then being stuffed in a sardine can with other people who may have equally distressing problems is a recipe for disaster.

Add alcohol to the mess and you have a dumpster fire of epic proportions. Some are drunk before they even hit the door of the plane. Some are overserved on the plane. Some....both.

The slightest little thing can set them off......someone bumping into them, someone reclining their seat, babies crying, someone "looking funny" at them, someone in their seat or spilling over into their territory. It's too hot, it's too cold, the seat isn't comfortable, your seatmate won't share the armrest, you have to gate-check your carry-on, etc., etc.

The first time I took a flight was in 1960. Back then, air travel was almost considered to be a Luxury, and people dressed nicely, and behaved themselves. Over the years, that pattern of behavior has deteriorated substantially. Now, half of the passengers dress like they are doing yardwork, and some of them stink of booze and BO.....it's almost like what traveling on a Greyhound Bus used to be.

Inebriated folks can be and are barred from boarding. Bar service is not very fast on Canadian airlines. I’ve seen the FAs take their time. I’m not saying we don’t have problems, they’re just not very often just because of alcohol. The FAs will space out drink service and if they have to will … really … space … it out. Saw this once on a flight from Mexico when the athletic team wanted a third drink. Sorry, no.

While there have been some crazy incidents on planes, I think most were during the height of Covid over mask-wearing. I've flown 4 times in the past year and have not experienced any incidents. With the exception of slight delays, our flights were pleasant and uneventful. We will be flying again in July.

The media loves to cover "exceptional" events for ratings. Think about how many flights leave on a daily basis and how many incidents have been featured.

Air Traffic By The Numbers

Every day, FAA's Air Traffic Organization (ATO) provides service to more than 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers across more than 29 million square miles of airspace.

I'm not going to let the news prevent me from enjoying life.

1. Stop selling booze to losers.
2. Five years in prison for jerks who have no manners and act stupid on planes.
3. All planes should carry pepper spray. Shot right in the eyes when you see a jerk.

they can be barred.. but their often not unless they're falling down drunk,..as in the case of the couple with the baby this week. Apparently they'd drunk a whole bottle of Vodka at the bar before getting on the plane ..IN The Morning .... and they were permitted to board.. even tho' we have the same policy with regard drunks .. but sometimes it goes unnoticed until there's an incident

yes they were much better dressed, well behaved, and it didn't cost tuppence for a flight. Since it's become affordable for just about everyone to fly.. there's the elemnt who just have never learned how to behave..

How about "stop selling booze at all " ? Five years ? What sentence would you give for somebody who does something REALLY serious, like stabbing somebody, or sexual assault ? Pepper spray, in a confined space ??? Terrible idea. You need to rethink your comments, John. JimB.

I remember the days when you could show up less than 15 minutes before planes departed even going through metal detectors. Now a process from leaving house to arriving at actual destination/hotel has probably doubled. Between extra check in/cavity search time and time in a big steel tube frequently going nowhere not allowed to go anywhere when people get off the plane they are ready to explode such as the recent brawl in Chicago at luggage pick-up

you must be at the airport for check-in a minimum of 2 hours before your flight...

I can't agree with you more. Stop selling alcohol at airports, and on planes. After going through the joy of a security check, you're stuck in a boring terminal for hours, because some over booked plane is way late, again. And there's an overpriced bar every ten feet. So, you wonder why passengers are irritated, drunk and unrully??????????

yes , unfortunately it's this 'airport experience'' that's putting so many people who've flown for years, right off flying any more..
