Credit Card Companies Lie When They Say They Support Their Customers

My credit card company assured me they'd support my dispute of charges for a damaged computer I'd ordered from a TV shopping channel. As requested I sent the CC company all pertinent purchase documents & a detailed report from the manufacturer explaining the computer damage occurred during the manufacturing process. Today, I get a letter from the CC company informing me they've closed my dispute, agreeing with the shopping network's explanation it's not their fault my computer crashed after their return/replacement policy had expired. No more TV shopping for me!

Sorry, but I agree with your CC company. The retailer has no liability after their return period expires. Did you attempt to contact the computer manufacturer?

My nephew who has worked for years as an IT, thinks the computer had been returned by another customer for the same reasons; put back in stock & unfortunately purchased by me. The darned thing died only days after the expiration of their return/replacement policy. A policy my nephew said my local electronics retailers would waive to keep customers coming back.

What brand is the computer? Surely it has a manufacturer's warranty beyond the shopping network's 30-day return period. Did you register your computer for warranty?

Yes, I registered the computer's warranty. I bought it because it came with a "protection plan," (which I later found out didn't cover problem like this one). When I contacted the manufacturer, I got the run-around because I didn't buy it from them directly, but I called them everyday until they finally agreed to have me send it in for repairs. (at their expense) When it was returned to me weeks later, it came with a report detailing what repairs had been made & explaining the damage occurred while the computer was being assembled. If Execs at that TV Shopping Network or my CC Company had a conscience they should be ashamed selling/demanding payment from customers receiving damaged items.

So the computer was repaired at no cost to you? I must be missing what the problem is.

Retail stores, whether TV shopping, on line, or at the mall have their own return policy. If you buy an Apple computer from Best Buy, you have to follow Best Buy's return policy if you want to return it. After the Best Buy return window closes, your only recourse for a problem with your Apple computer is to send it to Apple for warranty repair. That's just how it works. Neither the TV shopping network nor your credit card company is responsible for the repair of your defective computer once the return period has expired. Sorry.

Glad you got your computer repaired.

I got a lemon lap top once. It completely failed after just over a year. Of coarse the next one I bought the 3 year warrenty and it's going fine.

Sorry about that but I think you got a lemon.

The problem is I fell for the hype of those TV shopping network hosts who said : If you're ever unhappy with your purchase, send it right back to us & my credit card company which tells its customers: If you're not happy with your purchase, we'll help make it right. Never having purchased electronics online before, I didn't realize Apple, Dell, Intel, HP computers come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty. The detailed manufacturer's repair report, makes it quite clear my computer was a dud from day one.
