Cruise ship brawl at kiddie pool forces return to Miami port shortly after departure

A brawl/fight on a Royal Caribbean cruise liner forced an early return to a Miami port after the 2 combatants injured during a fight at the kiddie pool. Just departed earlier in the day.

Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas races back to Miami after brawl by kids’ pool

Ambulances seen carrying away at least one person.

What is it with fights on cruise ships now a days. I thought I saw a there was just a late night fight over fried chicken on something.

Sort of in the middle of that piece it said, "The confined spaces on a cruise ship apparently have a way of provoking outrageous behavior from passengers."

And we hear of people fighting on airlines. Maybe that's because passengers are too close together there too. But these days people don't even seem to need an excuse.

100% agree @MACKTEXAS they don’t need a excuse , it’s lack of respect ….
We are flying to Brisbane ( Queensland ) just prior to Christmas , for 4 weeks hope theres no screaming kids or fights on board.

Alcohol + imbeciles.
Wife and I fail to understand the attraction of a cruise ship. We will never take one.
I would be more comfortable aboard a commercial freight ship, or a tugboat converted to sport fishing.

Me neither @retiredtraveler ….we know a few , through our hobby of ballroom dancing that go on cruses and many still ….come back with covid.

( Touch wood we’ve never had covid)
We did a rail trip from Perth to Adelaide in about 2008 it was the most boring trip I’ve ever done ( 3 days / 2 nights across the Nullarbor which is a ~ mostly isolated desert area )

As Nathan said, alcohol is a huge factor.

The availability of "alcohol package deals" where you can have unlimited alcohol or an excessive amount definitely fuels the bad behavior.

Couple that with getting off the ship and heading out for a day of drinking at the nearest Carlos and Charley's and it's a recipe for disaster.

When I go on a cruise, I have one "frou-frou" drink for the fun of it and that's it for me. At $15 to $20 a drink, that's all I can afford. So far, I've never felt the overpowering urge to get into a fight with anyone.

I think I saw more drunks or people effected by alcohol on my cruise that I ever had seen at a pro football game, except a game I went to between the Steelers and the Browns in Cleveland at sometime in the late 80’s. This game was always a genuine rivalry and still is today.

I don’t mean to go out of step here, but I have to add that in that game, 2 guys had been drinking heavily and late in the third quarter they got into a real fisticuffs brawl and both went rolling down the steps in the stands. An ambulance took both of them out of the stadium. I think they were both seriously injured. The other part was that one of the 2 men’s buddy tried to break it up and he also got knocked out. It wasn’t as exciting as the game, but I would have paid $5 to watch it.

I can't tell you how Horrified I would be to be on any ship like this.....it actually makes me feel ill watching this video

I can say that such a cruise ship would be THE last place(actually not even) I'd ever want to be. It reminds me of the horrible crowds at a major international airport, along with several theme parks and modern casinos all rolled into one venue.

My idea of a relaxing boat experience:

As I've said before, I enjoyed my time at sea in the 60s/70s serving aboard large warships. The US Navy has changed since those days and I fear I wouldn't like it now, and I'm certain I would loathe a modern cruise ship even more. It was peaceful living woman free and news free for weeks at a time back then. Not like that anymore.

Things have changed as far as what the ships look like today compared to the 60’s & 70’s. Battleships have all been mothballed or decommissioned since the 90’s. I was able to tour the USS New Jersey, which was an Iowa class battleship not long after I left the Marines. There’s a lot of history in that boat as it was the most decorated ship and fought in more wars and fired more shells while in combat than any other ship.

Even from a distance those big guns were impressive. Glad I had the chance to see a Battle Wagon in action. Likely will never be such a thing again.

@hollydolly, my husband & I was talking about going on the MS Deutschland around 2008. They were having a 10-year anniverary that year & all 10 yo kids was free. I can kick myself in the hindquarters for not doing it. Our kid was 10 at the time, but getting off on vacation at that time was hard. The ship holds 650 passengers & 260 crew members & is decorated in 1920s style. Since original launched, I believe someone else has bought her.

The brochures I had at the time showed a beautifully decorated ship.

oh don't kick yourself too hard , just imagine what hundreds of ''free'' kids would have been like on the ship along with yours..

I did a Disney cruise once. Never again. It was the worst part of flu season and, I swear, all 20,000 of the kids on board had colds and sneezed on me.

I promptly got sick when I got back and was off work for a week.

It was almost as much fun as my last cruise, on which the Spousal Equivalent got deathly ill and spend most of the cruise in the ship's hospital hooked up to IVs. I was terrified they were going to unload him and send him to a hospital at the next port.
