Is this a taboo topic? Discussing the dangers of cults.
People have different definitions of what a cult is.
Thought it might be an interesting topic. Especially if some of you have experience in one.

scientology does come to mind ....and that jim jones story was one hell of a cult. talking people into suicide. thats
crazy

the catholic church is considered a cult by many. especially other denoms.
but i suspect part of that criticism is to boost their own credibility.
but they dont harass people if they quit. you are allowed to criticise and think for yourself to a large extent.
very democratic.

My cousin had a relationship with a scientologist years ago. He convinced her that if she died she would come back to a better life. She took $50,000 out of her bank account and the next day committed suicide. There was proof of her relationship and I'll never forget what happened to her.

All the information about what happened that day was sickening. From the posing of the body (she hung herself) everything pointing towards the door and many other oddities. I hope other people stay away from Cults.

Anytime the intellect and free will is totally and unconditionally surrendered to the pronouncements and decision-making of another without questioning, a cult mentality has taken hold.

i watched a movie about scientology. what amazes me is the slavery that can occur. people working 7 days a week for a pittance. just to further the cause of scientology . must be a terrible ferling to be afraid of quitting. So trapped.
