NEW YORK (WABC) -- There could soon be a curfew put in place for migrants in New York City shelters.

City officials had a conference call Thursday afternoon with local lawmakers on the asylum seeker crisis.

During the call, Councilwoman Joann Ariola of Queens asked if the administration is considering a curfew at its asylum seeker locations like Floyd Bennett Field, Randall's Island and the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.

The question comes amid reports that shelter residents have been
going out at night and panhandling or knocking on doors to ask for food, money and clothes.

Department of Homeless Services shelters generally have 11 p.m. curfews, and Ariola asked if the administration would consider a curfew to match those at traditional DHS shelters.

The Adams administration told her they would consider it

The city released the following statement:

"Our traditional DHS shelters have a curfew system and some communities and elected officials have asked us to explore this option for our migrant shelters. We are considering all options."

It breaks my heart to think of these people having to beg like this.

I don't think they have to. The state provides them up to 3 prepared meals/day + groceries, clothes, shoes, etc. It's possible they don't like the food.

But I wonder if that article is completely truthful. It's for sure the state shelters don't provide migrants with beer and liquor. Therein lies the problem, I think. In fact, I'm fairly certain....'specially about the beer.

Hi from California. You seem kind and concerned as well. I just had to reply. Do you know what our stupid governor is doing here? He's offering Medi-Cal to our immigrants. Holy Cow. We need Medi-Cal but I'm sorry. We're in our 60's and have worked 45 years each. Do we qualify for Medi-Cal? No. Just super, isn't it? I've learned a long time ago. If it's right, it's wrong and if it's wrong it's right. I'm sorry. I'm just so damned frustrated. Thanks for the read.

Boy, I understand. Sorry that's happening. 🤗

We lived in California for decades, but left 15 years ago. I've been watching what's going on there, and am sad to see some things.

I've had fake charities come to the door acting they're fund raising but I've never had a panhandler at night which makes matters worse. Once at your open door a person is one aggressive sudden move from being in your home.
