Curious about new member

Hahaha! I rarely get them because my man would have to be extremely spiritual (believe in Angels) , into literature and philosophy, and also appear much like Grizzly Adams!
(extremely masculine).
He might not exist on this world!
they generally don't learn anything about you , the mere fact you're female is enough for these people most of the time..They just sign up to have access to the PM's not to join in with the chat on the forum, I never reply of course, and I sincerely hope no-one else does...

It's a spam bot, I have got rid of it. As why it's always viewing "forum list", very simple, it's programmed to do so. The "forum list" is our homepage, maybe the spammer behind the bot only needed the information on our homepage, or maybe it's programmed to access every new thread but go back to homepage after the visit, which makes it less noticeable.

Obviously this is a stupid bot, it should logout every time after it finishes its job, it's just a matter of seconds, it would be hard for us to notice it.

I hate to see such bots on our online member list, so I screen the list a lot and check out unfamiliar names, usually I get rid of them in the first hour or day. Had no idea how I overlooked this one and allowed it to exist for so long. :D It's not unusual to have a dozen bots like this one registered within one day.

What's even weirder? Some banned bots will access the forum regularly for years, I had to actually delete the accounts to avoid seeing them. You see, the spammer behind the bots don't even know the status of their bots, it's possible to have hundreds of spam bots visiting hundreds of forums 24/7, as long as their computers can handle it.

Thanks for writing that out for us, @Matrix
Very interesting info.
It's a curiosity for some of us, as to how a website like this one of ours works!

I had thought about tagging you to this thread, early on, to consider telling us, yourself, why it sometimes seems like an unknown member is spending endless time viewing forum list.
I wondered if it could possibly be a default option of the website/forum program, but I understand your post.

One here is all I ever noticed @Bonnie, coincidentally happening same time period as other forum. This person also not a lurker, only goes to notification section & our one only goes to Forum List. Is not lurking threads to my knowledge. I'm sure Matrix is aware. As I keep saying, I don't have a problem, I'm just curious as I am a bored old woman with nothing better to do. o_O
Sounds like it's probably a bot.

And now for my own short synopsis:;)

A stupid bot doesn't know it's stupid.

Possibly because a spammer is a spammer, and nothing but a spammer.

And not everyone on the Internet, that joins a forum, is a human.
It's yet another example, that
Not everything on the Internet is what it appears to be.:geek:
