Customer Security Breach at Home Depot is Worse Than Target!

There is no Home Depot ere but I shop at wally world and suspect it will happen there anytime. I no longer use my debit card, just a credit card. Online shopping at these stores is iffy too. I stick with small, local businesses as much as possible. Many around here don't accept plastic.

Just a heads up. I pay $3.00 per year on my homeowner's insurance for fraud protection, (not identity theft). Perhaps, your policy may have such an option also. If any of my plastic is stolen and used by someone other than an authorized user, I'm covered. I use my plastic as much as possible to collect points for hotel stays and also airline tickets. Although I enjoy free air travel, my kids don't and my airline allows people to share comped mileage.

I shop there all the time but I'm not worried b/c I always pay cash.

I pay cash for virtually everything I buy unless it's a really, REALLY big item.

I don't have a debit card nor do I want one.

I do have a credit card though for hotel registration etc.

Easiest way, if you think your card has been hacked OR NOT,go to the bank IN PERSON to get the old card cancelled and get a new card and number right on the spot.

Ive done this 3 times already when Target,Home Depot,Sears had problems with their card system.

My debit card password is changed every 30 days.

I pay small cash too whenever I can, problem with that is everybody in line is watching you and if you pull out a roll of $20 or a wallet full of bills then expect to meet someone in the parking lot. Not worth it.

I hear and see stuff about Home Depot and credit card transactions over the years. One cashier told me they want to eventually start scanning your drivers license on credit card transactions over 50 dollars. I think credit card companies only require that the store visually check identification & verify who is using it. I also notice Home Depot wants to scan your drivers license on any return or exchange which is yet another data base to be hacked. I had to eat money because of 10 dollar item I wanted to exchange for size. I had my receipt and the item was new, unused in box with no broken seal. I'm not giving up my drivers license on a legitimate transaction. I also noticed using their website is frequently cumbersome to use which means the IT staff is not keeping after it.

I one-upped them and had my picture put on my credit cards. At least the banks that do this, like Chase, will gladly put my picture on my cards for free.
