Cut the cable today

My apartment building is wired for antenna TV, which I used when I first moved in. Then, in a moment of weakness, I signed up for cable service. Well, I was going over my budget, as I tend to do at the beginning of each month. I thought...darn, girl, you have Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime *through which I can get HBO if I want), why spend an extra $50 or so dollars a month for a lot of the same stuff.
So, as soon as I got up this morning I called Spectrum and told them to remove cable service. I will keep them for internet and landline. Of course, they tried to upsell me to Spectrum Mobile and I talked them out of it. They try to upsell me every time I call. I have a pre paid cell, which I use only when I am out somewhere. I am fine with that.

I use the Roku stick for about $40 at Walmart. It has YouTube which I watch more than anything else; there's so much content. I love the documentaries there's lots of other free channels too.

I, too, watch YouTube more than anything - there's so much content available. I enjoy having access to International news and programming.

I'd suggest that in buying a Roku, be sure and get a model that has voice-activated search. It's a pita to have to manually key in a search query. Also, I enjoy old B & W movies and there's lots available for free, just search by title or by actor/actress and Roku will list what's available.

I cut the cord about 5 years ago. Don't miss cable one bit. The only thing I watch on TV is sports and my $15 rabbit ears antenna works great. The only streaming service I have is Peacock Premium for $4.99 monthly to get English Premiere League football.

How do you get all those other channel services? Hulu and
that sorta stuff I mean...I got twoo hundred cable channels but hardly watch more than 3 or 4 of them, and pay 200 for them too...!!!!:(

Channels like Hulu and Netflix are through a nominal subscription charge.

There's beacoup free content through a streaming stick. You'd have to have a HDMI port on you tv. Most of the newer tv's have them. If I'm remembering right televisions on the market manufactured after 2008.

If you Smart TV has Pluto, you might be interested in checking that out. Yes, it has commercials but on nights when I am not in the mood to closely watch something but want something on the TV I open the app and pick the CSI or Star Trek Channel or some other familiar show channel and kind of watch what's on while doing other things.

Good for you Marie! You have three major streaming services so not much else is needed. I did add Discovery+ a few months ago and Paramount+ two months ago. I'll keep P+ some of the time and Netflix some of the time. Streaming exclusively changed my viewing habits for the better. I am ad free which actually saves viewing time. Adding and cancelling services as needed, anytime you want, no contracts to worry about is where it's at.

You also may need WiFi....
I have Amazon's Firestick and it offers a variety of shows, movies and documentaries plus YouTube also. The cost of it is included in Prime I guess. No charge unless I rent a movie.
Ditto on having a Firestick (same as Roku)..
